There may not be any individual Bonneter biologist

On page 67 of The Art of Super Mario Odyssey, it reads:

These little guys [Bonneters] love checking out local fauna in each kingdom. Approaching a Bonneter as a Captured creature is sure to delight them.

The phrasing implies that there is not any one Bonneter studying wildlife - rather it is an interest all Bonneters share. The individual Power Moons are potentially given out by completely different Bonneters each time. If this is unequivocally the case in the original Japanese text as well, then I would recommend merging this article with Bonneter proper. Nintendo101 (talk) 21:43, December 25, 2020 (EST)

The corresponding Japanese text is

他国で現地生物を調べる、好奇心旺盛な一面も。キャプチャー姿で近づくと喜ぶ

The meaning is roughly "In addition [it is/they are] brimming in curiosity to examine the local living things existing in the other kingdoms. [It is/they are] delighted when approaching in a captured form". It is similar to the English text, but no luck with the subject: it is fully missing. We can guess it's the same of the tip, the 「紳士的で好奇心旺盛なカプロン人」, i.e. the "gentlemanly and brimming with curiosity Bonneters".--Mister Wu (talk) 07:06, December 26, 2020 (EST)
Thanks, Wu. While the subject is not explicitely apartent, the fact that the text is still underneath the "Courteous Bonneters" tip. I feel like this affirms my assertion that there is no individual Bonneter biologist. What are your thoughts? Nintendo101 (talk) 12:05, January 5, 2021 (EST)
There's no particular evidence in the text that it's always the same Bonneter, but at the same time the Japanese text doesn't really say anything about the matter: they might be talking about the Bonneters and then show the example of a Bonneter. Are there any peculiar trait or lines of dialogues that might suggest he's always the same Bonneter?--Mister Wu (talk) 22:17, January 5, 2021 (EST)
I know this is old, but this might help. "他国で現地生物を調べる、好奇心旺盛な一面も。キャプチャー姿で近づくと喜ぶ", when I translate it says, "He also has a curious side, researching local organisms in other countries. I'm happy when you approach me in a capture mode". Now yes, this is probably inaccurate, but it clearly says HE, meaning there is a singular Bonneter Biologist. Maybe if someone who knows Japanese could do a better translation, we could see if that has SOME matches with this one? SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 12:53, March 12, 2024 (CST)
That is a machine translation, right? The Japanese text in question doesn't have any words for "he" or "they". The reason your translation has that word "he" is because an English speaker would use a word like "he" or "they" there. That's why Mister Wu above wrote "[it is/they are]". The machine translation program gives you a specific translation, while it seems Mister Wu was being more cautious. I hope this answers your question. Blinker (talk) 17:57, March 12, 2024 (EDT)
I said "when I translate it", but like I said, I'm not good at translating languages. SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) 07:20, March 13, 2024 (CST)
What exactly makes this character a "biologist" and not just a creature enthusiast, a kind of animal tourist? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 21:35, March 13, 2024 (EDT)
His dialog indicates he's testing theories on their physiology, which is a more scientific angle than most "creature enthusiasts" would have (like for example the Lochlady with a similar mission). I'd be fine with merging this, though, we don't split the "hiding Bonneters" from the postgame that appear on peoples' heads. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:29, March 14, 2024 (EDT)
It's unfortunate that the article does a poor job indicating such. I had to work off with just one quote. That being said, this should be merged anyway, this doesn't have much going for it.
