Panel de Pon 64

According to Japanese Wikipedia, a game with the working title Panel de Pon 64 showed up on Nintendo's release schedule in 1999, and though it mentions that there were no previews, it is believed that this game was replaced by or converted into 2000's Pokémon Puzzle League for the international market which, while having a different presentation, shares numerous similarities such as the 3D mode. It is possible that Panel de Pon from Nintendo Puzzle Collection is the finished version of the unreleased Japanese game for Nintendo 64, given Dr. Mario 64 is in a similar situation and Pokémon Puzzle Challenge was originally meant to be Panel de Pon GB. Unfortunately, sources I could find that repeat this information (like NinDB) don't provide references to the apparent release schedule, and neither does Wikipedia. Does anyone happen to have any clear leads? I know it isn't strictly Mario-related, but I find it a fascinating tidbit in Tetris Attack history. LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:30, 28 August 2018 (EDT)

Update - a 1999 prototype of Panel de Pon 64 was recently found and it confirms that the canceled Nintendo 64 game was ported to GameCube. Towards the end of the video, the owner also states that it became Pokémon Puzzle League the following year. Given this and Dr. Mario 64, it begs the question if the version of Yoshi's Cookie in Nintendo Puzzle Collection was the only new creation in the compilation or if it was a port of an unreleased Nintendo 64 game as well. I suppose that part will probably remain a mystery. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:55, July 21, 2020 (EDT)
