Talk:Fire Orb
Merge with Fireball
Why should this be merged with Fireball? I'm seeing a Japanese name being a more generic "fireball", but this one does seem like a more specific named move that shoots fireballs. I don't follow Mario RPG naming conventions closely, however; is there some sort of localization goof or meaningful context I'm not catching? It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:02, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
- Because it's a generic fireball move that is analogous to the game's basic "jump" special move. Also, the game's "flowers" which allow it seem to be a more broad Fire Flower stand-in (compare them to early artwork of Fire Flowers). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:19, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
- I hear there's also the highly questionable localization. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 20:26, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
- SMRPG's localization was indeed very rushed, inconsistent, and in some cases at the mercy of mere character limits. The fact that many were likely done from mere text with no visual reference only exacerbates that. Granted, I think this is more a flowery name for a basic subject, but it's just as much a normal fireball as the Smash Bros. move. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:42, June 8, 2022 (EDT)
- I actually think this and the "Jump" special attack are split-viable because they're in-battle moves that cost FP; in other words, "Fire Orb" (Fireball) and its variants are spells that allow Mario to shoot several fireballs at once, which is fairly rare outside of Fire Mario and Super Smash Bros. I'm somewhat neutral on this one, though, because of the game's muddied localization choices, but thought that angle was worth bringing up. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:19, June 30, 2022 (EDT)

Merge "Fire Orb" with "Fireball", or split "Jump (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars)" from "Jump"

Turning this into a proposal. It seems inconsistent to have one as its own article and the other not, given that they represent Mario's most basic special moves. For what it's worth, the game describes the fireballs that Mario throws in this state as "fire orbs", so I do lean towards merging. Whichever one passes, it should resolve the inconsistency.

Merge "Fire Orb" with "Fireball"
- LinkTheLefty (talk) My preference.
- Tails777 (talk) This feels like the most suitable idea. I don't see us with separate articles for jumping in the Paper Mario or Mario & Luigi games.
- Swallow (talk) Per proposal
- Somethingone (talk) Per proposal
- 7feetunder (talk) Most logical choice; we don't split Bro Flower from Fire Flower.
- Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - per
- Arend (talk) Super Mario RPG had relocalized plenty of names for characters and items with already established names (e.g. "Goby" for "Cheep Cheep"). Per proposal
- Shadic 34 (talk) Per all.
- Blinker (talk) Per proposal.
- TheFlameChomp (talk) Per all.
- Hewer (talk) Per all.
- Killer Moth (talk) Per all.
