Dinger Derby
Template:Minigame-infobox Dinger Derby is a 4-player minigame in Mario Party 5. The name is a variation of the real-life Home Run Derby.
Introduction
The camera is zoomed in on one of the players, and zooms out as each of them takes a practice swing, then hits a baseball.
Gameplay
The players has 30 baseballs thrown at them by a pitching machine and must hit as many of them as possible. There are four types of pitches: a standard pitch, a fast or slow ball, and a screw ball that wobbles furiously. If two balls come toward the character, it counts as one ball, since the player can hit only one of those two. If the player manages to hit a ball at one of the spectators, the spectator will be dazed for a moment.
This minigame appears as the sixth minigame in Mini-Game Decathlon. Here, the player's objective is to hit as much balls as possible to earn as much points as possible, up to a maximum of 1,000. A player can get a 1,000 if they can hit all 30 balls. The default record for this minigame in Mini-Game Decathlon is 17 points.
Ending
The camera changes angle and the bats disappear. The players then perform their victory/losing animations as the crowd cheers and confetti and balloons appear to commend the winner's success. If the player manages to hit all 30 balls, a parachute with a 30 on it will appear. There is no ending in the Mini-Game Decathlon variation, the screen fades to white before the results are shown.
