Template:Worldbox Sea of Sand is the second world of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. The levels are all desert themed. There are eight levels in this world, two of them being castle levels that are guarded by Roy Koopa. Various Mushroom Houses are also found around here, giving the player items such as Starmans, Mushrooms, and Propeller Mushrooms. On the map, there is an area where Mario and the gang can get sucked into the sand and play in a level where they have to collect all the Toad Balloons without dying.

Levels

World 2-1

This level takes place in the desert and is the first level with sand geysers. This level has only one room, and no secret rooms that are reachable. All of the Star Coins are in plain sight, and rely on using the sand geysers to get them.

The level starts with a Koopa Troopa walking off of a platform onto a sand geyser towards the player. There is then a series of 4 sand geysers, the last of which is right below the first Star Coin. After this is another sand geyser, and a breakable block which contains a 1-Up Mushroom. Next is a section with geysers and many Goombas, which are continually being produced by a red Warp Pipe. There are more geysers, a Boomerang Bro, and the halfway flag. There are more geysers, this time with Koopa Paratroopas, and there also Piranha Plants on several of the main platforms. The second Star Coin is in a small indentation in one of the platforms. There is then a section with many Piranha Plants, one of which is elevated occasionally by a sand geyser. After some more geysers, there is the third Star Coin, which is obtainable by jumping on a red Koopa Paratroopa, and throwing the shell to obtain it. After this, there are more geysers, Koopa Paratroopas, a Boomerang Bro, and the goal.

  • Star Coin 1: Before the first red Koopa Troopa over a geyser under an orange platform which is easily seen.
  • Star Coin 2: Under a solid platform with a Piranha Plant next to a geyser.
  • Star Coin 3: Right over an abyss. (must use a Koopa Shell or a Propeller Mushroom).

Enemies

World 2-2

This level is filled with barrels and Spikes. There are areas with platforms infested with Koopas and Spikes. If the player goes into a pipe near the plaforms right after the halfway point, they can get a Mini Mushroom that will let them go into the mini pipe and let them skip a great part of the level.

  • Star Coin 1: Before the checkpoint, there is a deep pool of quicksand. Enter it to reach the bottom. There is a P-Switch, which upon activating, sends the player falling to the bottom while collecting Blue Coins. Enter the warp pipe on the right into the room with two Spikes on platforms and a ? Switch. Use the switch to activate timed moving platforms to reach the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 2: After the checkpoint, there is a moving platforms with a Spike and four brick blocks above it. Use the barrel at the left of the moving platform to activate the first block containing a Beanstalk. Alternatively, the player may use a Propeller Mushroom or, if there is two or more players, bounce on another player and hit the block from below. The Beanstalk takes the player to another platform which moves to the right. Use the POW Block along the way to get the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: To the left of the two platforms with a Spike on one of them, enter the green pipe on the left and obtain a Mini Mushroom. Exit the area and continue to the right until reaching the four moving platforms with a Spike at the top ledge. Break the tiny barrels at the bottom ledge and enter the green mini pipe to get the Star Coin.

Enemies

World 2-3

This level is a pitch dark cave, which is dimly lit by lanterns, Fire Bros. Fire Snakes, Venus Fire Traps and Spike Tops are common enemies in this level. The player can use a Fire Flower and shoot fireballs to improve visibility. At the end of the level, the player can get 99 lives by jumping on the koopa shell.

  • Star Coin 1: Can be obtained at the bottom of the second set of large yellow blocks with two Fire Snakes. (as shown in the picture on the right)
  • Star Coin 2: Upon reaching the Fire Bro, there is an area at the bottom of the ledge the player is standing on (where the fire balls are being thrown at). Enter the area to reach the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: At the second last Venus Fire Trap in the level, there is a platform on the left of it. Wall jump on the left wall where the trap is to reach the platform. Continue to the right by jumping over the gap to reach the Star Coin and complete the level.

Enemies

World 2-Fortress

This tower is the first castle in World 2 and is the second tower in the game. This tower features metallic fences that the player can cling on. As the player advances, purple fireballs will appear from above. They can be taken out with ice balls.

Roy Koopa is fought at the end of the tower.

  • Star Coin 1: In the section where there are two sides, with the two fences moving between the two, the left side seems to be empty. Going up the right side and climbing up the fences will reveal the Star Coin on the left. To obtain it, jump to the fence when it goes to the left and climb it. The Star Coin should be easily obtained now.
  • Star Coin 2: In a hidden aclove just to the right of the checkpoint in the second area.
  • Star Coin 3: Before reaching the boss door, there are three fences, which two are moving and there are sharp objects at the ceiling where the Star Coin is. (if you see four fences and three are moving, and the floor has sharp objects, go back down.)

Enemies

World 2-4

This level has many floating coins and Koopas, as well as POW Blocks. Every few seconds, Wind blows in the level, forcing the player to the right.

  • Star Coin 1: After a green pipe before the checkpoint, there is a platform which is difficult to reach without a Propeller Suit, but still possible though. Go to the top of the left wall, where there are three hidden blocks, the middle one with a beanstalk. The Star Coin is located above the beanstalk, in the area with a cloud floor and two Propeller Block.
  • Star Coin 2: There is a green pipe at the bottom ledge just after the checkpoint. Wait until the wind drops, and drop down to the bottom ledge and enter the pipe. A Propeller Suit is require. Drop down to obtain the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: This coin is difficult to reach as it requires accurate timing, otherwise a life could be lost. It also requires a Propeller Suit. At the point where a sign says to go to the upper ledge, just continue forward. With timing, make a long jump when the wind begins to blow and propeller up. The wind will blow the player to the Star Coin.

Secret Exit

This exit also requires a Propeller Suit. After the third Star Coin there are two platforms with one Spike Top each. When the wind begins to blow, do a running double jump and propeller up to the enclosed area with a red pipe. This secret exit leads to a warp pipe in the World Map, which leads directly to World 2-Castle.

Enemies

World 2-5

This level has many Pokeys, and there's also a Yoshi in this level, which makes taking out Pokeys easy, while following the beat of the music. Lakitu also makes an appearance here and throws Spinies, which can easily make the player's Yoshi fall in the quicksand.

  • Star Coin 1: The player should climb up the third tree from the beginning of the level, where the first Lakitu appears. There is a small cloud to the left on top of the tree which is hiding the Star Coin. The player should now flutter jump to the coin if they have a Yoshi or use the cloud the Lakitu is riding on to reach it.
  • Star Coin 2: Just before the checkpoint there is a Piranha Plant between two sets of yellow bricks. The player can use the Yoshi to bounce on it from the left, and drop down to the right. (the player should be standing on a 'stacked' yellow block) The player should drop down into the hole below into a dark area. The Star Coin is at the top of the stack of yellow blocks.
  • Star Coin 3: A Lakitu cloud (from the large Piranha Plant area) is needed for this Star Coin. It is located at the top right of the yellow blocks with Pokeys on it.

Enemies

World 2-6

This is a mushroom level that mostly has moving coins and blocks. The player will have to ride a pink block for the majority of the course. Fire Chomps make an appearance here.

  • Star Coin 1: After the first ? Block; the Star Coin can be easily seen and grabbed.
  • Star Coin 2: Before the end of the track for the first pink block, there are four sets of moving brick blocks and a ? block. Enter the green pipe just above the highest set of brick blocks. Use the cloud floor and the Propeller Blocks to reach the Star Coin.
  • Star Coin 3: Along the track of the second pink block; also easily seen and grabbed.

Secret Exit

You (or at least one player) will need a Propeller Suit. There are two ways to get to the exit:

  • Use the P-Switch along the way on the second track to turn coins into brick blocks. Make a long jump and propeller to the set of brick blocks under a red pipe near the end of the level. Enter this red pipe to ger to the exit.
  • Attempt to jump and propeller to the red pipe when the pink block is just under it. If there is another player available, request him/her to use your propellers to carry you up as far as possible and you youeself propeller to the red pipe after that. Otherwise, use the Fire Chomp to bring you as high as possible and propeller up to the red pipe. Attempting from the end of the pink block's track may sometimes works too. This method may take several tries.

The secret exit unlocks the Warp Cannon of the world, which will bring you to World 5.

Enemy Course

World 2 Enemy Course

When 2-5 or 2-6 are beaten (with the normal exit), 6 spots on the map will open, and every time the player moves onto one of the spots, 2 holes will shoot up. If the player(s) is(are) on the platform when this happens, they will fall.

World 2-Castle

This castle is filled with lava pits, and three way corridors, of which only one is the correct path, much like in Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. In order to complete that area quickly, the player needs to take the upper route, the lower route, and the center route in that exact order. Podoboos are also common in this castle.

Roy Koopa is fought here for the second time. He attacks by popping out of pipes that Kamek makes with his magic before the start of the battle. When Roy jumps out of a pipe, it might shock Mario (like a Sledge Bro). Mario also needs to avoid getting squished by Roy Koopa.

  • Star Coin 1: At the beginning of the level, quickly propeller up to the Star Coin before the screen blocks it. If the player does not have the propeller suit, take the middle path in the first fork.
  • Star Coin 2: Located in the second area which is easily seen. Destroy the brick blocks to grab it.
  • Star Coin 3: When the player hits the P-Switch in the third area, go across the brick blocks to get the Star Coin.
