-Stats

Hooktail

The holder of the first Crystal Star. Hooktail is a dragon who's been terrorizing Petalburg and killing the residents who came to her castle to slay her, like Kolorado's dad and Koops' dad. When Mario, Goombella and Koops came to her castle to get the Crystal Star, they slayed Hooktail and freed Koops' dad, who was swallowed whole. And in Hooktail's stomach, he found the Diamond Star and gave it to Mario and his team as a reward. She has two older brothers named Bonetail and Gloomtail. Bonetail resides in the bottom floor of the Pit of 100 Trials and Gloomtail guards a key in the Palace of Shadow.

Magnus Von Grapple

A giant robot controlled by Lord Crump.

It first appears in Chapter 2: The Great Boggly Tree. When Lord Crump steals the Emerald Star and activates a 5:00 self-destruct mechanism, Mario and his teammates must catch up to him before the Great Tree detonates. The minute Mario and his teammates catch up to Crump, Crump deactivates the detonator and summons Magnus Von Grapple to attack. After Mario defeats Magnus, Lord Crump and the X-Nauts are driven out of the tree.

Magnus Von Grapple appears again as Magnus 2.0 at the X-Naut Headquarters in Chapter 7: Mario Shoots The Moon, in which Lord Crump was assigned by Grodus to guard the Crystal Star. Magnus 2.0 is pretty tough than the Magnus Von Grapple you faced at the Great Tree. After the robot is defeated, it will explode, shooting Lord Crump into space.

When Mario (aka the Great Gonzalez!) and his team learn from a mysterious person named X that Grubba has been making the fighters disappear, Mario and company must follow all the clues if he is going to get to the Gold Star, especially if that meant fighting Grubba's alter ego, MACHO GRUBBA!! After they defeat Grubba, Jolene confesses to Mario and his team that she was their X buddy and upon Grubba's defeat, Prince Mush, Jolene's younger brother comes out of the machine unharmed. Mario is given the Crystal Star as a reward for defeating Grubba.

Stats: HP: 60, Attack: 4, Defense: 0

Doopliss

A duplighost who's been causing trouble at Twilight Town, turning the residents into pigs and stealing Mario's identity and teammates, leaving Mario his shadow. To defeat Doopliss, you must find the Superbombomb and give it to Shadow Siren Vivian. Vivian will join your team and help you get your identity and teammates back and to do that, you must do what the characters did in Rumpelstiltskin: guess Doopliss' name. The only thing Mario and Vivian were missing was the lower-case letter P. The letter P was hidden somewhere in Creepy Steeple. After Mario and Vivian guess Doopliss' name, Doopliss flees back to Creepy Steeple. When Mario and Vivian fight Doopliss at Creepy Steeple, Vivian discovers she was helping Mario and does a little time to think it over. She joins the team for real, because Mario treated her a lot nicer than Beldam and/or Marilyn. After they defeat Doopliss, Mario gets his identity and friends back and gets the Ruby Star. Doopliss runs of in humiliation and joins forces with the Shadow Sirens for revenge. He becomes a lot nicer at the end of the game and pursues a career in acting alongside Flurrie.

-Stats:

Cortez

The holder of the fifth Crystal Star. He is a very old pirate who once sailed the seas in the marauding Black Skull. He thinks Mario is after his treasure and fights him. After he is defeated, Mario will tell him he's not interested in hie treasure, just the Sapphire Star. After getting the Crystal Star, Lord Crump and the X-Nauts will attack Keelhaul Key. Your only option: ask Cortez if he can lend you his ship, and give Cortez the Skull Gem, which Flavio's ancestors stole from him. After you defeat Lord Crump, Cortez will give you lifts to Keelhaul Key and back to Rogueport.

Stats: HP: 20, Attack: 4, Defense: 1

Smorg

This boss doesn't hold a Crystal Star, but it attacks the Excess Express during the trek to Poshley Heights. This monster is made up of smaller smorgs, disc-like creatures with yellow eyes. They were first seen at the Riverside Station, where they lift the drawbridge, trying to stop Mario and his teammates from reaching the Garnet Star at the Poshley Sanctum (It's obvious they're working for the Shadow Sirens-- they were ordered to stop the train from going far after the Honey Syrup Bomb plan failed). Later on, they stow away onto the train and kidnap the passengers and make the train go out of control. Mario and his teammates fight the tribe on top of the train and free the passengers.

  • Smorg's Stats: HP: 50, Attack: 5-10, Defense: 1
  • Smorg Miasma's Stats: HP: 4-6, Attack: 5-10, Defense: 1

-Stats: HP: 80, Attack: 8, Defense: 2

Bonetail

Bonetail is a large Dragon, living at the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials.

He is the oldest member of the "tail" family, older than both Gloomtail and Hooktail. As his name implies, he is merely a skeleton of a Dragon, implying that he has been living far longer than the other members of the family. He was once a minion of Shadow Queen, but has apparently stopped serving her. Any actions outside of the Pit of 100 Trials, if any, are unknown.

-Stats: HP: 200, Attack: 8, Defense: 2

Grodus

He is the supreme leader of the extraterrestrial organization called the X-Naut Legion. He kidnaps Princess Peach and he wishes to capture all of the Crystal Stars before Mario does to unleash the spirit of the 1,000-year-old demon known as the Shadow Queen. His base is located on the Moon.

  • Grodus X: HP: 3, Attack: 4, Defense: 0

King Bowser is Mario's archest enemy of them all and Kammy is Bowser's right-hand Magikoopa. After Kammy told Bowser Grodus abducted Princess Peach (even though the Magikoopas don't know who it was that kidnapped her), Bowser went to Rogueport to kidnap her back. Bowser first fought Mario at the Glitz Pit and he and Kammy fight Mario again in the Palace of Shadow.
