Glitches

Yoshi Replaced by Chargin' Chuck

When the player is on Forest of Illusion 1, the Yoshi that is found here can become a glitchy Chargin' Chuck thing, first the player has to be Cape Mario or Luigi and kill a Chargin' Chuck with Yoshi, then, go down in a pipe with the Yoshi and go back, if the player kills the Yoshi and got back an egg, the Yoshi is replaced by Chargin' Chuck, but, his tongue can work normally if the player ends the level with it but the game will freeze.

This glitch will not corrupt the save file.

Fastest Way to Earn 9,999,990 Points

A glitch from Super Mario World.
8000, 1-up, 2-up, 3-up, Something weird...

Bring Cape Mario to an area with at least two Wigglers (three is better); the best place is Forest of Illusion 1. Jump on the yellow Wigglers to make them angry, and float back and forth so that the angry Wigglers are red again. Keep jumping on the Wigglers, and the player will gain points as usual. After the player gets 8,000 points, they will get a 1-Up, 2-Up, and then a 3-Up. On the next bounce, the game will display strange symbols that represent five extra lives. More glitchy graphics will appear, and they will give large amounts of points in addition to numerous coins.

This glitch was fixed in the GBA version.

Glitchy Graphics from Defeated Enemies

A glitch from Super Mario World.

The balls on Iggy's and Larry's platforms can be destroyed by the sliding attack, as can the Grinders (using a triangle block). This results in glitchy graphics, most likely because the developers did not intend for these enemies to be defeated. The same thing happens if Mario does a nose diving in the second level of Bowser battle. The Big Steely will be defeated as the head of Princess Toadstool colored red.

Glitchy Smoke

Go to Yoshi's House and keep pressing R and L. The smoke from Yoshi's fireplace will become glitchy.

Make Grab Blocks Last Indefinitely

Take a Grab Block and go through a pipe. It will never disappear. The player can take any carry-able enemy through a pipe and it will never reactivate.

Stuck Buzzy Beetle

When going to Donut Plains 2, pick up a Buzzy Beetle and go to the first platform going down. There, throw it upwards and leave it there. It will get stuck in the platform.

In the Pipe

A glitch from Super Mario World.
A Yellow shell trapped inside a Pipe

In any level with a pipe that extends and retracts into the ground, the player should get an item that Mario can carry (Koopa Shells, P-Switches, etc.) and leave it on top of the pipe. When the pipe retracts, the item will fall with it as normal, but when the pipe extends, the item will be stuck inside the pipe. The item will "vibrate" back and forth and eventually move out of the pipe after a few seconds.

Keyhole Craziness

In Donut Plains 1, jump off of Yoshi to the platform with the Key and keyhole so that the screen does not scroll up to the keyhole. When you take the Key and insert it into the keyhole, the keyhole will expand from the center of the screen instead of from the actual keyhole.

Freeze Glitch

In Super Mario World, there's a glitch that freezes the game. The player must find a Fire Flower first then a Feather (or vice versa). Have Mario become Cape Mario and then get Yoshi. Next go to a world that contains berries. Now the player must drop the Fire Flower and let Cape Mario touch it and at the same time get Yoshi to eat the berry. This causes the game to freeze and as well make Mario flash from red to green like if he touched a Starman. It can also have a more helpful effect of infinitely raising the player's coins, giving him/her up to 99 lives in the process. Then the player can leave the level by pausing the game and pressing Select, although this requires the player to have cleared the level before.

Note: This glitch will not work in the GBA remake.

Falling Through the Floor

In Vanilla Dome 2, it's possible to fall through the floor via a glitch. Towards the end, the player has to take a left and go through the "secret" passage. Then the player has to get a Buzzy Beetle shell and toss it at the first two blocks. Then the player has to quickly get a running start and slide under the blocks before they harden. Once there, the player must not release the down button. Once the player is completely surrounded, if he/she press A, he/she will Spin Jump through the floor, leading to Mario's demise.

Make Items Go Through Walls

This is only possible in the SMA remake. There are many parts in the game when Yoshi can eat an item and then stand right next to a wall and spit it out. For example, in Valley of Bowser 4, in the part when the player must smash through a row of blocks that has a trampoline near it, the player can swallow it with Yoshi, go down the small gap in the floor, turn left, and then spit the jumping board out. It is likely to go through the wall.

A Shell and a Pipe

In Vanilla Dome 3, the player has to go to the checkpoint near the two orange pipes. The player has to defeat the Beach Koopa and claim its shell. Then the player has to start from the right-hand pipe and take a running jump. The player has to try to aim about 2 blocks under the pipe's top and let go the shell the moment the player hits the pipe. If done correctly, the shell will be stuck in the pipe.

Through a Hill

To do this glitch, the player must throw anything, such as a Buzzy Beetle shell, into a steep hill that they couldn't normally walk up and it will go through it and bounce around inside of the ground.

Stuck Buzzy Beetle 2

Go to Vanilla Dome 2. Make sure to have reached the checkpoint. Head to the left of the checkpoint and stomp on a Buzzy Beetle then go as far to the left as possible without pushing the P switch. Jump to the ceiling and throw the Buzzy Beetle up. It should be stuck in the wall.

Stuck Mushroom

The player needs to go to Chocolate Island 5. Near the start of the level there should be a structure with a ? Block. The player has to bonk the block with the hidden mushroom. After it appears, the player needs to bonk the rotating block to the left of it. The mushroom should be stuck in the wall.

X-Ray Pipe

When the player goes into a pipe on the same time as another is in front of him, the shadow of Mario will appear with the texture of the pipe in the body of the front.

The Double-Yoshi

In the level Chocolate Island 5, if Mario/Luigi grabs the two P-Switches and bash the Yoshi block with it, the block will create two Yoshis, but only one appears. When the Yoshi fall in a abyss, the other one appears. If the player fall in a abyss and wait Mario and Yoshi disappears, jumping, he is traveling in a invisible Yoshi.

Grabbing two objects

A glitch from Super Mario World in which Mario holds a trampoline and a P-switch at a time.
(top) Mario holding P-Switch and Trampoline.
(bottom) Mario holding Shell and Trampoline.

If two things (like P-Switches, Shells [with two shells doesn't works], Spring, etc.) are placed in same place and Mario/Luigi run (pressing Y without drop), he will catch the two things when crouch and slide to grab the objects (the cause of drop not Y button), the player will take the two things in same time.

Mario with the Sound of Spiked Roof

In Ludwig's Castle, after Mario/Luigi passes the spiked roof, if Mario spin-jumps when the roof is in the more down possible, Mario does the same sound as the spiked roof does when it hits the floor.

Front'n'Back

This glitch works in many levels, but in more easy in Star World 4. When Mario/Luigi grabs a shell or baby Yoshi and pass in same place what the chain of spin platforms, Mario will get in front and the shell/baby Yoshi will get in back. The same happens when Mario is mounted in Red Yoshi (the Yoshi of the level).

Renewing P-Switch

To get this glitch to work correctly, the player should be mounted on Yoshi. Yoshi should press P-Switch and eat it swiftly. When Yoshi spit, the P-Switch will be in his normal form, ready to be pressed again.

Yoshi's Pipe Elevator

In some "up-down pipe", leave the Yoshi when the pipe is in "down". The Pipe rises, Yoshi stays in place, but will come up quickly.

Miscolored Pipe

A glitch from Super Mario World.
Part of pipe was glitched

In Donut Secret 1, Mario should enter in the Warp Pipe to Bonus Area. When Mario goes up, the pipes are orange, but when Mario come down, both pipes are miscolored green.

An Opening Death

In Forest of Illusion 3, Mario must take the Key and go to Spin Block above the Keyhole. When the time runs out, Mario will fall and put the Key in Keyhole.

Behind the Giant Gate

It's possible to get behind the Giant Gate by flying very high above the gate or undernearth it. The game actually makes further use of this glitch, as if it's an element. The glitch is the only way to get the dragon coins behind the giant gate in Star World 3.
