The starting planet of the Honeyhive Galaxy.

Honeyhive Galaxy, also known as the Honeyhive Kingdom, is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is full of flowers, Honey Walls, and friendly bees. The kingdom and its bee subjects are ruled by the Queen Bee. Mario will use the Bee Mushroom here for the first time. It is here that he learns how to use the Bee Suit and is now able to fly and stick on honeycombs.

Planets/Areas

Starting Planet

The first Planet that Mario always starts on contains many Bees, some Boulders, and, sometimes, Mandibugs. This planet is where the first Bee Mushroom is located. There are also some red flying insects on this planet, and a large waterfall in the back. The area behind the waterfall has honey all over the floor, with a Launch Star leading to the Flower Planet. There is a treetop here that contains the Toad Brigade and the first Power Star. On the second Mission, Mario can use a Sproutle Vine to reach an area with a Sling Star, leading to a button with a Wiggler around it. Pressing it leads the player to the side of the Starting Planet, an area with boxes on them and a Launch Star leading to the Hat Planets. In Mission three, Queen Bee will be behind the water, asking for Mario's assistance. A Launch Star will then appear, taking the player to the Bugaboom Planet.

Flower Planet

The Flower Planet is an area that has flowers on the top of it, including a very big one at the end. The big flower contains a Launch Star that will take Mario to the Queen Bee Planet. There are also fountains of water in between the flowers, turning Bee Mario back to normal if he touches them. This planet has crickets and rock spitting enemies.

This planet starts out with a Honey Wall that Bee Mario must climb. At the top, he will ride a Sproutle Vine leading to Queen Bee. This planet is filled with more fountains and water. After Mario finds all the Star Chips on Queen Bee, he will find a Launch Star that takes him to a treetop on the Starting Planet.

Hat Planets

This area can be found in Mission 2. It has two planets shaped like hats, containing Wigglers and Piranha Plants on them. The Sling Star will take the player to the Rattle Planet.

Rattle Planet

This planet is shaped like a rattle. On the side of the planet is a Rainbow Star that Mario can use to destroy all the enemies for tons of Star Bits. When Mario goes through the log in the middle of the planet, he will fall to the Observation Deck.

Observation Deck

The Observation Deck has Mandibugs crawling all over it, and a button that activates a Pinwheel leading to the top of the deck, which contains two Mandibugs: a Normal one and a large one. After defeating them, Mario will get a Power Star. The Observation Deck also has a few Springs and a swing.

Bugaboom Planet

This Planet is where Bugaboom, leader of the Mandibugs lives, and it is also where Mario must fight him. There are several platforms leading to the actual planet. There are several Bee Mushrooms here, and a small Honey Wall that Bee Mario can climb. When Bugaboom is defeated, a Power Star appears.

Levels

Bee Mario/Luigi Takes Flight!

Mario is now Bee Mario!

Mario will begin this level and all others on the largest planet in the Honeyhive Galaxy. Mario needs to follow the path up the hill to a ? Coin, which reveals the game's first Bee Mushroom. The player has to collect the powerup and fly up the nearby ledges. (Do note that the Mushroom is not an absolute necessity at this point, but will help greatly). At the end of the tunnel is a tree stump with a hole in it. The player will have to jump down the hole and slide down the slide. Mario will have to fly and jump across the ledges with honey to reach the Launch Star. If Mario walks on the honey, he will be slowed down and his jumping power is reduced significantly. Mario will land next to a pond filled with lily pads. One of the platforms has a dandelion that Mario can spin up to gain height. The player can use the flower to reach the flower platforms in the air, and Mario will have to carefully fly across them whille avoiding the water jets to reach the Launch Star. Mario will be faced with his first Honey Wall. Mario will have to climb up the wall to reach the pond where the Queen Bee resides. The Queen Bee is complaining about 'a horrible itching plague' (she is covered in Star Chips), so the player will have to fly over to her and climb on her to collect them. Then the player will have to use the Launch Star to end up at the top of a tree on the main planet. The leader of the Toad Brigade will present Mario with a Power Star. After the completion of this mission, Toads will walk around the Comet Observatory, and begin construction of the Starshroom.

Trouble on the Tower

A Mandibug vs Mario

Some enemies from a neighbouring planet, the Mandibugs, have taken residence in the Honeyhive Kingdom, though it is not quite a full-scale invasion. Of course, it is Mario's (or Luigi's) responsibility to put a stop to it! With the aid of a Bee Mushroom, he must climb up the enormous main planet, and traverse a few smaller ones, to end up on the Tower of the Kingdom. To do this Mario will start on the Starting Planet. When Mario begins the starting planet, there will be a 1-up right behind him below ground level and an "M" of Star Bits. Mario must advance up the path past the boulders and ignore the large expanse of space with many enemies from piranha plants to swoopin' poinks. Ignoring the enemies, Mario must destroy the second stone on the path to release a sproutle which will bring him to the next part of the planet. In this part, Mario must use the second trampoline, the first will lead to a ? block with star bits in it, to bounce up to a Spin Star which will send him to a platform with a wiggler and a button. Using the button, Mario must ground pound it to open up the next part of the path where he must wall jump to the top of a staircase. At the top, he must wall jump up to wooden boards to a Launch Star. The Launch Star will lead to the Hat Planets where Mario must first face a barrage of Piranha Plants and then of Wigglers. At the end of the second Hat Planet, Mario will find another Spin Star which will take him to the rattle planet. On the rattle planet, there will be several piranha plants, one more wiggler and a ? coin which releases a Rainbow Star. There is a tube for Mario to go through which will take him to the Observation Deck. There, he must defeat several mandibugs and use trampolines to get to a wall jumping platform which he can wall jump up to get to the upper level. In this level, he can ground pound a button, activating a windmill which will take him to the very top where there is a mini boss in the form of two mandibugs stacked on top of eachother. Mario must ground pound the one on top and then do the same to the one on the bottom to defeat it and release the Power Star that it was guarding.

Big Bad Bugaboom

The Mandibug infestation has hit an all-time high, and it seems that to end the invasion, the leader of the Mandibugs, the ferocious Bugaboom, must be defeated. To get to him, Mario begins on the Starting Planet. He must travel through the starting planet, once again, avoiding boulders, swoopin' poinks and piranha plants except this time, there are mandibugs as well. Using a bubble blaster, he must go to the area at the bottom of the waterfall and travel through the tunnel (it has three mandibugs in it) to meet queen bee. It is possible to stop on the other side of the Starting Planet for a 6-life mushroom and some enemies if Mario goes down a pole. Queen Bee will ask Mario to help them and give him a Launch Star so that he can get to the Mandibug Planet. There are two small platforms before the Mandibug Planet which can help Mario with his dandelion-climbing and flying skills which will come in use during the bugaboom battle. Mario will then land on the Bugaboom Planet. To defeat Bugaboom, Mario must ground pound his back. The first time, Bugaboom just charges at Mario on the ground and Mario only has to use a bee mushroom to get higher than it then ground pound. However, the second time Bugaboom starts flying and Mario must fly up to some honeycombs and stick there until Bugaboom passes or use the dandelions to ground pound his back all the while avoiding the bombs shot out of his stomach. Finally, on the third time, Bugaboom will grow angry and start flying faster and on his side so that Mario cannot defeat him. Mario must use the dandelions with the correct timing to get above him when he is not on his side and ground pound him. If all that is done, Mario will gain a power star from the cracked body of the former boss.

Honeyhive Cosmic Mario/Luigi Race (Cosmic Comet)

Upon entering this level, a Cosmic doppelganger of Mario or Luigi appears. Mario has to race Cosmic Mario and Luigi must race Cosmic Luigi for the Power Star. If Cosmic Mario or Cosmic Luigi reaches the Power Star first, Mario or Luigi loses a life. As is the case for every Cosmic Comet mission, the Luigi version is much more difficult, as Cosmic Luigi is faster, uses a lot of long jumps and doesn't hang around one area to make a jump. However, in this race, he makes one vital flaw - getting stuck in the honey floor near the end of the race.

The Honeyhive's Purple Coins (Purple Comet)

100 Purple Coins have been scattered around the main planet of the Kingdom, and it is up to the Mario brothers to grab them all and save the star. This mission is notorious for being one of the longest stars in the game - a huge amount of exploration is necessary, and it is possible to accidentally die while traveling to the star - the player must be very careful, and make sure to look in every nook and cranny to find every single Coin.

Luigi in the Honeyhive Kingdom

After rescuing Luigi from the Haunted Mansion of the Ghostly Galaxy, and helping him out in the Good Egg Galaxy and Battlerock Galaxy, his fourth destination is the Honeyhive Galaxy. Once again, he needs Mario (or the playable Luigi) to rescue him, this time from a 'big, scary bug'. He can be found hugging a tree in the first mission of the Galaxy. After completing this mission and meeting up with the NPC Luigi in the Comet Observatory, he decides that searching for Power Stars is too scary, and gives up.
