The Bonefin Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. Like the Drip Drop Galaxy, this galaxy is basically a large body of water with a solid core. However, unlike the Drip Drop Galaxy, this galaxy has a large, spiky shell shielding most of it. This galaxy is home to Kingfin, a gigantic skeletal shark that Mario must defeat to earn a Power Star. This is the only bonus galaxy in the game where Mario must fight a boss.

Unlocking

This is the only galaxy within a dome in Super Mario Galaxy which requires a mission from outside a dome (Giant Eel Outbreak) to be completed to unlock it. This galaxy is also the dome-based galaxy which requires the most Power Stars to unlock. It needs 55 Power Stars, in comparison to the last galaxy to be unlocked in the Garden (Melty Molten Galaxy), which only requires 52 Power Stars.

Planets

The Starshroom (starting planet) and Kingfin's Planet

Abandoned Starshroom

When Mario first enters the galaxy, he will start out on a green Starshroom near the Kingfin Planet. This Starshroom, which serves as the Starting Planet, is empty for unknown reasons, as there are no Toads found anywhere within the level; this may indicate that it is derelict. It has regular Gravity, meaning Mario can walk around its outer surface at his own leisure. There are several Star Bits on its underside and a Launch Star on the top of it will take Mario to Kingfin's Planet.

Kingfin's Planet

When Mario lands on this planet, Kingfin will appear along with Bonefins and attack Mario. After Kingfin is defeated, the Power Star appears.

The planet itself is in two parts. It has an outer shell that encircles its second part, but cannot be accessed due to the altitude above the water and the fact that Mario flies through one of the holes in the outer shell when the Launch Star sends him down to the planet. The second part is considered the planet's main part, being a spherical mass of water with a central stone core, and is where Mario lands upon arrival.
