'Mushroom World?' Wouldn't that be 'Mushroom Kingdom,' or did you have something else in mind? --DarkInsanity (talk)
- By Mushroom World I meant all the kingdoms and lands surrounding the Mushroom Kingdom. The Mushroom World was first mentioned in Super Mario Bros. 3, to encompass of the kingdoms outside the Mushroom Kingdom. Rose Town and the Donkey Kong Isles are outside the jurisdiction of the Mushroom Kingdom, but they are still a part of the greater Mushroom World. --son.of.suns@gmail.com 16:53, 10 May 2006 (EDT)
- Why not just use Marioverse? Much simpler. --DarkInsanity (talk)

More than one Link
Should we mention that there are more than one Link? Thought this doesn't seem very Marioish, but we may have to say that because the Link in Super Mario RPG and Donkey Kong Country is not the same Link in the Smash Bros. Series. Plus, the Link in Smash Bros. Melee seems to not be the same one that will appear in Brawl. Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back! (I confused many gamers that don't play Zelda...)
- I don't play Zelda, and I know what you are talking about. I still refuse to believe there are several Link's. Anyway, no, it is not Mario-related, so, don't put that down. It is ridiculous anyway to believe there are hundreds of Link's. My Bloody Valentine
- But all of the games confirm that there is more than one. Even interviews with game creators say this. Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back! Ah well...not very Marioish...maybe I'm just becoming too much Zelda fan...agh...
- Yeah, just leave it out. Also, no point arguing over something that isn't Mario-related. Wether there is many Link's or not isn't of this Wiki's concern :P My Bloody Valentine Still interesting, though.

- Very well then. But I wasn't arguing if there was one or more Link (we arleady got proof from the game directors and stuff as well as the games directly say so) I was wondering if we should put the info in. Since there IS a chance they're not the same Link. Paper Jorge! I give paper cuts so stand back!
- Meh, doesn't really matter anyway. It ain't Mario-related, so, who cares on this Wiki :P I still think it was interesting though. My Bloody Valentine I will definetely play as Link in Brawl. :P

- All Legend of Zelda games feature different Links (save Majora and Ocarina, in which both Links were the same). But basically, there are many incarnations of Links throughout the series. And the Brawl link is a different Link from the one in Melee (though the one in Melee is still the same as the Link in the orifinal). Confusing end to an argument, huh?Knife (talk) 00:32, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

Yes. And while it is highly possible that all the Ganondorfs are the same, it's more likely that they are all different as well. Master Lucario The Aura is with me...
Whenever there's a crossover or a featured guest, I try to shut out everything I know about the person/character except for the information provided. So, in this case, let's look at what Sakurai has said. "The design for Link is taken from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, so his special moves have also been designed a bit differently." He didn't say it was a new Link, he just talked about his design. Until we have confirmation, I'd say don't put it in. HOWEVER! You can mention that, according to Mei Ling, "They [people named Link] all have certain things in common--green clothes, a sword, a shield... But they all came from different lands and lived in different eras. And yet the spirit of the hero of the Triforce is timeless. It's an essence that transcends history." Because that's in the Mario/Smash continuity. In other words, not only can we mention something about the multiple Link theory, we should. Stumpers! 18:37, 18 March 2008 (EDT)

We're did it come from? And don't you think it would be more fitting to have something like "...", or no quote at all? DC
- It's from the Zelda series, so I don't think it should be here. Time Questions 13:56, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
- It actually was from the Zelda portions of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!, which did appear as "trailers" in the live-action segments. We also have an article about that series, I believe it's at The Legend of Zelda. Stumpers! 14:51, 14 August 2008 (EDT)
- I think those TV series(Meaning LoZ) are too non-mario related to stay as an article. Should it be removed? Also, yeah, that quote from a TV series of a SUB-tv-series BASED on a video game series just seems too far away to end up on an article... Marcelagus (T • C • E)

...Er, the quote on here is awful. I suggest this:
- “That's Link. He's the hero of Hyrule. That blade in his hand is called the Master Sword, also known as the "Blade of Evil's Bane." He also has a whole arsenal of items at his disposal--bombs and arrows, a shield, a boomerang, and a Clawshot. He's a force to be reckoned with.!”

Why does the one template say Link's first appearance was in DKC2 when his first appearance was The Legend of Zelda? I know it says that because it was Link's first appearance in a Mario-related game, but...yeah. Neox 14:43, 16 February 2009 (EST)

Mario's cameos
This article should also cover all the times Mario characters have made cameos in the Zelda games.Sonictoast 12:56, 7 April 2010 (EDT)

Cleanup
This page is written in the past tense in some areas. Everyone should help fix this!!!!!--Thejfh1999 14:57, 18 September 2011 (EDT)
Okay, I put the tense template on for you.Mario Bros.!
- This was even written in future tense at several parts and had apparently hardly been edited since Brawl was released, as it still worded several things as if they had just been announced for an upcoming game. I've tried to fix the tense in this (the Donkey Kong Country 3 thing is told in past tense in the game and not actually witnessed by the player, so it should remain in past tense here), though I may have missed some stuff. I also attempted to fix some awkward wording and hard-to-understand things, although as I've never played any Smash Bros. games, I can't say for sure if they're correct, particularly with the final part of the Bomb section, which was so awkwardly written that I have no idea what it was actually meant to say.--vellidragon 17:29, 21 September 2011 (EDT)
Familiar Melody?
a strange but familiar melody can be heard whenever anyone tries to talk to the slumbering Link. What melody would that be? The sentence seems to try and make it a mystery to anyone who doesn't have prior knowledge about it, which is entirely not what an encyclopaedic article should do.--vellidragon 17:29, 21 September 2011 (EDT)

Shouldn't we use his Mario Kart 8 render?
If his main appearance in the Mario Universe is that seen in Mario Kart 8, that should be his image used, shouldn't it? --WAluigipants (talk) 00:43, 30 June 2017 (EDT)
- The wiki prefers using images that solely contain the character. In this case, Link is inside a bike, so it's not the preferred image for the info box. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 00:52, 30 June 2017 (EDT)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Super Mario Odyssey?
Super Mario Odyssey would be Link's 2018 appearance in the Mario franchise... But since he got another appearance in MK8DX... I'm confused.--WAluigipants (talk) 21:05, 25 July 2018 (EDT)
- Um, Link is not in Super Mario Odyssey o.o Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:17, 25 July 2018 (EDT)
BOTW Link image for the info box
As of recent, Link has been appearing in his Breath of the Wild attire rather than his traditional green tunic. The render used currently for Link's page uses his SSB4 render, and a new render for Link as he appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate exists online. Is it a good idea if I change the render used for the info box? --WAluigipants (talk) 00:16, 13 October 2018 (EDT)
SMM2 form
Shouldn't the Super Mario Maker 2 form be split out from this article in order to retain consistency with articles like Peachette? (T|C) 16:06, December 2, 2019 (EST)
- I don't think these are really comparable, Peachette is clearly a unique transformation as a result of combining Peach and Toadette. Link is just... Link. Splitting Link for consistency with Peachette would be more like splitting out Link in Mario Maker 2 and then splitting the Peachette form and her appearance in Mario Kart Tour. I don't see a reason to split for now. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:16, December 2, 2019 (EST)
- I'm not sure about Peachette, but others come to mind like Metal Mario that have separate articles over the form and character (as loose as that is). LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:27, December 2, 2019 (EST)
- Okay, yeah, that's a better precedent. (T|C) 16:58, December 2, 2019 (EST)
- Eh, I still don't think it's necessary. Metal Mario is a form turned into a unique entity, while Link is a unique entity turned into a form. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 20:35, December 2, 2019 (EST)
- To be honest, I don't think Metal Mario and the like necessitated splitting either, but that's beside the point. Personally, I see it as more a possible evolution of Costume Mario. LinkTheLefty (talk) 22:11, December 2, 2019 (EST)

Merge Young Link and Toon Link info to here
This talk page section contains an unresolved talk page proposal. Please try to help and resolve the issue by voting or leaving a comment. |
Current time: Thursday, November 14, 2024, 11:06 GMT
I'm proposing merging Young Link's and Toon Link's sections in the fighter lists they're in to this article, as well as having Young Link and Toon Link redirect to this article, for the following reasons:
- Since they're all Link, it would make all the Link-related info easier to find.
- The fighter lists Young Link and Toon Link are part of are already really huge.
- I haven't seen the "Young Link" and "Toon Link" names used very often for these incarnations. From what I've seen, they're usually just called "Link".

- Mushzoom (talk) Per proposal.
- Ahemtoday (talk) Similarly to a talking point between the sub-options of the current Samus TPP, these specific distinctions between Links are Smash-original. Although there are multiple individual Links in this case, Smash lumps adult OoT Link, TP Link, and BotW Link under the "Link" name while separating other versions, which is a Smash-original conceit. As Link's article specifically exists because of his non-Smash relevance, I don't think it makes sense to follow Smash's lead in splitting these characters in this way.
- Hewer (talk) Per Ahemtoday, and per the Samus proposal splitting Zero Suit Samus into the same page as Samus. Since we've got a Link page for the character's Mario-relevant appearances, it makes sense to put all of those appearances there rather than splitting based solely on Smash.
- Pseudo (talk) Per all.
- Nintendo101 (talk) Link is Link.
- DrBaskerville (talk) Per Ahemtoday and Hewer; there's no link between Young Link and Toon Link and the Mario world other than Smash, so while it makes sense for Link to have his own page given his appearance in Mario games, the same is not true for Toon Link or Young Link. Any necessary information about them should just be included on Link's page.
- SeanWheeler (talk) Let's reduce the clutter of the Smash character lists.
Oppose
- Tails777 (talk) I'm kinda leaning more to opposing. Neither Toon Link, nor Young Link have nearly as much connection to the Mario series as normal adult Link does, meaning their presence here is almost entirely reliant on their Smash info (I guess they do have cameos in WarioWare, but that's a cameo, not a full on appearance). As a result, it, to me, makes more sense to follow Smash's way of separating them. The length of the respective lists doesn't feel like too strong of a reason, as those lists are going to be long regardless due to the fact that they're meant to cover so many fighters and the incarnations going by the name Link is only really relevant to the Legend of Zelda series, which doesn't really have too much to do with how the Mario series covers them. In the context of Smash, something we still have coverage on, it refers to them as individual fighters so I think it's fine to keep them separate on their respective fighter lists.
