In physics, a wormhole is a hypothetical feature of spacetime that is basicly a shortcut through space and time. Worm holes are utilized for transportation becuase of their unique ability to take you anywhere in the universe (and anywhere in time) faster than the speed of light. Worm holes are a feature of both the Marioverse[1] and real world.
