Polar Extreme is a Free-for-All minigame in Mario Party 9. Its name is based on the terminology "polar extreme," which represents radical viewpoints.
Introduction
The camera focuses on the ship at the end. Then, it switches to the players.
Gameplay
As the screen auto-scrolls to the right, the competitors must reach the ship or survive by jumping on breakable ice chunks that shift under their weight. If the player falls into the water, they are temporarily frozen before returning to the ice chunk, but they can leap out of the water by pressing rapidly. The player can fall into the water only three times in a row. The player loses if they fall behind the scrolling screen. Penguins can be found on some chunks of ice as obstacles, stunning any player who touches them. Players can jump on the penguins to flatten them for about a second. Occasionally, jumping on a bigger chunk of ice results in it shattering into smaller pieces. The player who jumps onto the ship or survives longest wins.
