Template:SMBSSbox "The Koopas are Coming! The Koopas are Coming!" is the thirty-fifth episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. During the cartoon segment of the episode, the four companions met General George Washingtoad who, with his army, is trying to revolt against King Koopa. The name of the episode is based off the erroneous quote attributed to American patriot Paul Revere during his Midnight Ride, "The British are coming!"; in fact, the entire episode is based off of the American Revolutionary War, fought from 1776 to 1783, that gave the original thirteen American colonies their independence.
Summary
Mario and friends have been called to help General George Washingtoad battle Redcoat Koopa, who then arrives at the camp and uses the Ice Scepter to freeze the Revolutionary army. After Mario uses a Fire Flower to defrost them, Luigi is sent to warn the Toads of the Koopa attack. However, he is captured en route and Readcoat Koopa demands that Mario surrenders. In order to rescue Luigi, Mario decides to attack Koopa's camp from behind, but in order to do this, he must cross the Delawide river, a feat never done before in the winter. In the end, Mario crosses the river and attacks before touching a Fire Flower to transform into a Super Mario, capturing the Ice Scepter and defeating the Koopas.

References to the American Revolutionary War
This episode is based on the Revolutionary War fought between the Thirteen Colonies that would later become the United States of America and England.
- The Plumber's Log is numbered as 1776, the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed, recognizing the United States as a country.
- George Washingtoad is stationed in Valley Forge, a forge in Pennsylvania where George Washington and the Continental Army spent the Winter of 1775 before later launching an attack on Hessian forces in Trenton, Delaware, on Christmas Morning.
- This same detail is carried over with the crossing of the Delawide River, itself based on the crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas Eve, 1775. The placement in said scene is based on the painting Washington Crossing the Delaware.
- Mario having Luigi ride a horse to warn the colonies that "the Koopas Are Coming! The Koopas Are Coming!" is based on Paul Revere's Midnight ride, where he was one of two riders to warn the colonists from Lexington and Concord that "The Regulars are coming out!"
- Luigi's mention of Koopa's dumping tea in the harbor is a reference to the Boston Tea Party, where the Sons of Liberty snuck onto a British trading ship and dumped crates of tea into Boston Harbor.
- The line of "Give us Koopa, or give us Death" is based on Patrick Henry's speech to the Virginia Convention "Give me liberty, or give me death!"
- Mario, Luigi, and Toad's positions and instruments at the end of the episode are based on the painting The Spirit of '76, which was painted to commemorate the centennial celebration of America's independence.
Animation and continuity errors
- The furnace within General Washingtoad's tent vanishes when Redcoat Koopa enters, but reappears when Mario thaws himself.
- There is no stick present on the ground by Princess Toadstool and Toad until Redcoat Koopa appears.
- The positions of the guards outside Washingtoad's tent swap from time to time.
- Sometimes the guards are seen frozen wielding muskets, but other times they bear no weapons.
- Although Mario acquires a Fire Flower to thaw Washingtoad's soldiers, he is repeatedly seen as normal Mario in some shots, and later gets a Fire Flower again due to this error, which lasts until the episode's end.
- Even though Toad was frozen along with the others, he was not present when Mario thaws out, and is later present by Princess Toadstool.
- The Flurry that aids King Koopa is sometimes seen missing its arms.
- In the shot where the Beezos appear above Luigi on his horse, Luigi can be seen with the colors and body shape of Mario with a Fire Flower. He returns to normal after this shot.
- When Redcoat Koopa is walking to look at Luigi in the pillory, he suddenly jolts forward.
- When Mario shoots a fireball to warm everyone up, the tents at Washingtoad's camp are red instead of the usual tan.
- One scene ends with Mario firing at a black screen, as if the scene was unfinished.
- As Mario says "Koopa" in "That's one cold Koopa", the hair on the back of his head quickly appears and disappears.
- In one scene, George Washingtoad has a mustache then disappears when he turns his head.
