Lord Bowser and Tucayo

Hello everyone! I am Lord Bowser (talk) here, and I am running for the position of Poll Committee Chairperson for 2017-2018. I have chosen Henry Tucayo Clay (talk) to serve as my Vice-Chairperson for my term.

I have experience as a Poll Committee member for the seventh Poll Committee, and have been responsible for a sizable number of polls featured on the wiki's Main Page after my acceptance into the committee. Being a member of the committee is an overall rich, rewarding, and fun experience to have, and I wish to allow potential applicants to share this by running for Chairperson of the next committee. My credentials, besides being a Poll Committee member, include being an Awards Committee member during 2013 and 2017, and an accomplished 'Shroom writer across multiple sub-teams throughout the years of 2013, 2016, and 2017; Tucayo's credentials include being a dedicated 'Shroom staff member for several years, being a MarioWiki administrator since 2015, a Poll Committee member in the third and fourth Committees, and Poll Committee Chairperson for the seventh Poll Commitee.

As Chairperson, I would uphold all of the welcomed innovations offered by our most recent chairs; Palkia47 (talk), Andymii (talk), and Henry Tucayo Clay (talk). This includes one poll per week instead of one every two weeks, keeping a monthly 'Shroom section in rotation detailing poll results and committee updates, encouraging public suggestions for polls, and working with the Awards Committee in order to ensure the best possible outcomes for the awards ceremony polls. I will strive to make sure that all of the Poll Committee members are active, cooperative with one another, and creative with poll ideas and concepts, and take all comments, praise or criticism, into consideration.

One idea I would like to introduce as Chairperson is community surveys, which would serve as a replacement for the ongoing wiki-related polls. These would be short questionnaires dealing with various aspects of the community, such as the wiki, the forums, and the 'Shroom. This idea was actually attempted several years ago by the wiki staff, but fell flat due to lack of support; however, with an official committee in charge of this project, I feel like this will be much more successful now. The purpose of these surveys would be to highlight aspects the community excels in, where we need improvement, and just to serve as a method of providing feedback in regards to the community. An example survey I had in mind would be one regarding the wiki as a whole; what it is most commonly used for, what information we might be lacking in, how effective our rules and policies are, etc. The surveys would be written up and proofread by the Poll Committee as a whole, and will be presented in place of the polls on our template once they are completed. In order to provide the best access, we plan to ask for permission to use the "spinner" coding from the Awards Ceremony polls. After gathering feedback for a time, the results (with names remaining anonymous) will be publicly posted on the forums and within our 'Shroom section. The ideal timing I had in mind for these surveys would be approximately one every four months, with the survey remaining active and available to responses for two weeks; in the meantime, we will continue producing top-quality polls on par with our previous committees. We would be welcome to outside suggestions for surveys, just as how we currently are (and will continue to be) with public poll suggestions.

To accommodate the increased workload brought upon by these planned surveys, I plan to expand the Poll Committee by allowing one additional member to join; this would increase its maximum size from nine members to ten (including the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson). Anyone with an autoconfirmed wiki account and a forum account could apply for the eight open spots on the forums by simply sending both myself and Tucayo an application PM, which will be elaborated further on in the future. We also plan to be slightly more stringent in regards to activity within the Committee, sending out reminder PMs to those who have little-to-no activity within our underground board for very long periods of time. However, daily activity will of course not be required; simply contributing to discussion whenever it occurs would be more than sufficient.

Tucayo and I will work hard to make sure the eighth Poll Committee produces consistently high-quality polls for the wiki community to provide their opinions on, and also to encourage further poll ideas from the public. The seventh Poll Committee was a great term overall, with dozens of interesting and unique ideas for polls submitted by not just the committee, but from the community as a whole; it would be an honor to not just continue, but further improve this tradition as Poll Committee Chairperson. Please feel free to ask us any pertinent questions about our plans for the eighth Committee, along with any suggestions or comments you may have; we would be more than happy to take any sort of feedback into consideration. Thank you all for reading this campaign!

- LB and Tucayo
