Of all the templates that could be considered unnecessary, this one certainly seems up there. It's not like we have a template for all the transformative items or some other arbitrary division. Category:Goals already does exactly what the template does, especially since there's no separation in the template like other nav templates, so I fail to see the benefit of keeping this one around. Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Well, first "already" is a complete misnomer - Category:Goals did not pre-exist this template. Indeed, the category is populated exclusively by this template.
Secondly, there's the disambig issue, particularly with the ones solely called "Goal" (inc. Super Princess Peach, which is on the template but doesn't have an article - and so isn't in the category & won't be until there is an article. I don't have the game, so I can't add one - and Super Mario Land 2, which I've never quite got round to adding). Goal needs a complete overhaul - not just to add the links, but to turn it into an article about the concept - but, again, that's time for research & writing I've never personally found.
Thirdly, there's the issue of inter-article linking. Many of the pages on this template were barely linked before it existed. Special:Lonelypages shows there are currently 198 entirely-orphaned pages, but there are god-knows-how-many pages with only one or two links to them. This gives all the pages on the template a decent number of links from pages with some degree of relevance.
There's certainly room to create "separation in the template like other nav templates" - Super Mario series, DK(C) series, and so on, however... - Reboot (talk) 00:24, 19 May 2016 (EDT)
