Yoshi prepares to jump a ramp at Rock Rock Mountain, in Mario Kart 7.

A ramp is an obstacle found commonly in the Mario Kart series. When used correctly, ramps have the capacity to propel players high into the air, usually over long drops and distances. Ramps are also often paired with Boost Pads to reach longer distances.

Characters can perform tricks with a trick button, depending on the control scheme, in Mario Kart Wii, and in Mario Kart 7, by hopping after driving off ramps. Characters must be fast enough to trick off ramps. Another ramp (sometimes referred to as a Rainbow Ramp) is capable of launching players further and higher than normal ramps. In Mario Kart Wii, characters cannot perform tricks off of these ramps. These are not to be confused with Ramps that have Rainbow Boosts on them. In Mario Kart 7, blue ramps can be used to glide off.
