In Slime's special shot, it summons three other slimes, each one with a different color: pink, yellow, and green. The Slime is unlocked by winning 28 games. If players pick Slime 20 times in a sport, they unlock an alternate, orange version of Slime called She-slime.  The alternate color can also be unlocked by clearing a certain mission on the Star Cup. The same can be told of a second alternate color, Metal Slime, except players must either pick it 40 times or defeat it in Star Cup.

Slime is a species, as well as a character, from the Dragon Quest series of games which is published by Square Enix. Slime made a crossover appearance with Mario and company in Itadaki Street DS. The Slime is the mascot for the Dragon Quest series, as well as a fairly common, weak enemy in the games, much like the Goombas.

In Itadaki Street DS, Slime appears as a playable character. The "Slime Mask", "Slime Suit", and "Slime Maracas" are collectible items that can be equipped on customizable characters. The Heal Slime, a subspecies to the Slimes also appearing in the Dragon Quest series, also appear in the game.

Slime reappears in Mario Sports Mix for the Wii as a playable character. It is classified as a Tricky type character, and is the only character not originating from the Mario or Final Fantasy series (not counting the customizable Mii). Oddly, Slime's best stat is its power, while it suffers from weak speed, and abysmal technique.

The same can be told of a second alternate color, Metal Slime, except players must either pick it 40 times or defeat it at the Star Cup.

On a side note, of all the characters who have alternate outfits, Slime is the only character who has its name changed when its alternate colors are chosen.
