They look like cameras
Autobombs are special cannons with wheels. Shy Guys ride on these cannons, shooting fireballs. These enemies plauge the land of Subcon, working for the tyranical Wart. On the side of the cannon is the letter "M". This probably stands for Wart's Japanese name, Mamu, and was unchanged in the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2. When Mario or one of his friends threw the Shy Guy rider off, he or she could ride on the cannon. This was required to complete some levels as the ground was spikes.
