The title of this article is conjectural; an official name for the article's subject has not been found, so it has been given a fitting title by the editors. If an official name is found, then the article should be moved to its appropriate title.
The Giant Star Bit is a semi-common item in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are giant, blue Star Bits with a strange spiky white crystal structure in them. They are most commonly seen floating in space on a Launch Star's path. When Mario or Luigi fly through the path with the item, they smash the Giant Star Bit into six separate Star Bits that circle around him and can be collected.
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Giant Star Bits are sometimes found on the ground, but this is rare. They are so rare that they are only found in the Melty Monster Galaxy and can be destroyed by being hit by Boulder Mario or Luigi after grabbing a Rock Mushroom at the start of the level. However, for some reason these Giant Star Bits only produce four Star Bits. These Giant Star Bits can also be broken by the Co-Star Luma.
Three Giant Star Bits appear on the World Map, one in World 1 and two in World 2. The Starship Mario can break these just by touching them as well. They seem to have a yellow spiky crystal in them and release eight Star Bits.
