The Yoshi Island Spirits have only appeared in the game Yoshi's Universal Gravitation to date. Each had a special objective to be cleared before they let Yoshi pass. Their leader of them appears to be Hongo.

It is unknown if the Spirits have a hierarchy of power among them, or if they reside or have resided anywhere but Yoshi's Island, which is where they currently inhabit. The Spirits include:

Hongo, the Book Spirit

Main article: Hongo

Hongo is the leader of the Yoshi's Island Spirits. He is firm and elderly but shows he can be forgiving at times. He is responsible for the banishment of the spirit who would later help Yoshi.

Spirit of Cuteness

Main article: Spirit of Cuteness

The Spirit of Cuteness looks like a flower coated balloon with wings and cute swirly cheeks. She makes a weird hum-buzzy flying sound. She cares very much about the Egglings and wanted Yoshi to save them. Yoshi had to eat apples to transform the apples back to egglings.

Spirit of Greed

Also known as the spirit of greediness, The Spirit of Greed resembles a golden mouse who has a pouch full of money, and is the embodiment of greed itself. It also resembles Tap Tap the Red Nose. To pass him, Yoshi had to collect many coins in the level. He has a golden shadow, showing just how greedy he is.

Spirit of Power

Main article: Spirit of Power

Also known as the Spirit of Strength, and the Spirit of Mightiness, the Spirit of Power is the strongest of the spirits inhabiting Yoshi's Island. He resembles that of an obese purple genie with a goatee. To clear his levels, Yoshi had to defeat a preset number of enemies. This trial is almost the exact opposite of the Spirit of Kindness.

Spirit of Fright

Also known as the Spirit of Scariness, the Spirit of Fright is a kind yet frightful spirit who's tasks involve racing away from rolling spikes which tear the level apart. To go along with his frightful demeanor, he resembles a Mummy.

Spirit of Kindness

The Spirit of Kindness in a benevolent and gentle spirit who resembles a rose. Her tasks for Yoshi always involved defeating the least amount of enemies in a level as possible.

Spirit of Speed

Also known as the Spirit of Swiftness, this energetic Spirit loves to challenge others to races. Despite being so competitive, she is very friendly. Her design is based off of a streak of lightning, which is often associated with speed.

Spirit Who Loves Surprises

Main article: Spirit Who Loves Surprises

The Spirit Who Loves Surprises is a mischievous Spirit who was banished from the Spirit Council under the orders of Hongo. He assisted Yoshi throughout Yoshi's Universal Gravitation and hosted mini-games as well. At one point, he controls a fake, paper cut-out version of Bowser to attack Yoshi as a prank and a test. He is based off of a jester.
