Candies are special items found in Mario Party 8. Replacing the Capsules of Mario Party 7, players can collect and eat the Candies found throughout the boards to either help themselves or hinder the progress of their opponents. Upon eating a Candy, a player will either change their physical appearance for a short time, or receive an enhanced ability of some nature. A single player can hold up to three candies, while a two-player team can hold five.

While free Candies can be earned by passing over Candy Areas, there is no way to determine which Candy a player will receive upon crossing one. However, players can also visit Candy Shops, where they may purchase a Candy of their choice in exchange for Coins. Unlike the Orbs and Capsules of the three previous installments, Candies cannot be thrown onto Red and Blue Spaces to create Character Spaces or roadblocks; as such they are more like the items from the first four Mario Party games.

Additionally, the grand prize awarded to the winner of the Star Battle Arena is a year's supply of Candy.

Types Of Candy

Red Candies

Red Candies affect the Dice Block.

Twice Candy

Main article: Twice Candy

Twice Candy allows the player to use two Dice Blocks instead of one when eaten.

Thrice Candy

Main article: Thrice Candy

Thrice Candy allows the player to use three Dice Blocks instead of one when eaten.

Slowgo Candy

Main article: Slowgo Candy

Slowgo Candy allows the player to be able to hit a Dice Block that scrolls through the numbers more slowly, but the numbers allowed to be hit are 1-5 instead of 1-10. The Candy is useful when the player is near a special space, such as a Lucky Space or a DK Space.

Green Candies

Green Candies affect the player and/or the other players just before the player hits the Dice Block.

Springo Candy

Main article: Springo Candy

Springo Candy allows the player to move to another player's space without affecting him or her. The player must first throw a dart at a wheel with the other characters' faces on it. Depending on who the dart hits, the player will spring (using his or her spring-like body) to that player's space. After that, the player will hit the Dice Block.

Vampire Candy

Main article: Vampire Candy

Vampire Candy allows the player to turn into a vampire-like version of himself/herself and steal coins from other players. First, the player must throw a dart at a wheel with portions of how many coins he or she will steal. Depending on what the dart hits, the player will steal that many coins from all the other players.

Cashzap Candy

Main article: Cashzap Candy

Cashzap Candy allows the player to attack a player and destroy their coins, but not steal them. The player must throw a dart at a wheel with the other characters' faces on it, and, depending on who the dart hits, the player will attack that other player with lightning, causing him or her to lose half of his or her coins.

Yellow Candies

Yellow Candies affect the player and/or the other players while the player moves across the board.

Bowlo Candy

Main article: Bowlo Candy

Bowlo Candy allows the player to turn into a ball version of himself/herself (much like Mario's form in Mario Pinball Land), and is able to steal 10 coins from each player he or she hits while moving across the board.

Bloway Candy

Main article: Bloway Candy

Bloway Candy allows the player's legs to turn into a mini-tornado and sends whoever he or she touches while moving across the board back to the start.

Bitsize Candy

Main article: Bitsize Candy

Bitsize Candy allows the player to turn into an 8-bit version of himself/herself. While moving across the board, the player can hit a block from each space he or she passes that releases 3 coins. This is useful for collecting coins while travelling to Stars that cost coins or anything else.

Weeglee Candy

Main article: Weeglee Candy

Weeglee Candy allows the player to turn into three tiny versions of himself/herself, and is able to steal a random Candy from each player he or she passes by (if they have any) while moving across the board.

Blue Candies

Blue Candies are similar to yellow Candies, but blue ones have a more massive effect on other players.

Thwomp Candy

Main article: Thwomp Candy

Thwomp Candy allows the player to turn into a stone head, and he or she is able to make any players he or she passes by while moving across the board each lose half of their coins.

Duelo Candy

Main article: Duelo Candy

Duelo Candy allows the player to duel the first person he or she encounters while moving across the board. Whoever wins the duel minigame gets to throw a dart at a wheel with coins and Stars. Depending on what the dart hits, the victor gets to take coins or Stars from the loser of the minigame. However, after dueling, the player remains on the space the other player is on instead of continuing the Dice Block move.

Bowser Candy

Main article: Bowser Candy

Bowser Candy allows the player to don a Bowser costume, hit two Dice Blocks, and steal two Stars from each player he or she passes by. This Candy is exclusive to Bowser's Warped Orbit.

Bullet Candy

Main article: Bullet Candy

Bullet Candy allows the player to turn into a Bullet Bill-like version of himself/herself, hit three Dice Blocks, and steal one Star from each player he or she passes by. This Candy is exclusive to Bowser's Warped Orbit.
