Drivers will have to jump over gaps in the track with lava beneath using the ramps. At the beginning of the race, players can cheat and boost onto a nearby rock, making the world record 19 seconds. From the second lap onward, parts of the track collapse and new gaps appear on the course. At the beginning of the track is a cave, followed by octagon platforms which move left and right. At several places, the track splits into a right and a left path, both of which drivers can take. Flame Bursts and Podoboos appear as obstacles. Giant ? Blocks appear in the background scenery.

The Grumble Volcano ultra shortcut
This shortcut is the hardest shortcut of all Mario Kart Wii courses. There are 2 ways of doing this shortcut. you can do one method of the in races, but you can only do the 2nd method in time trails. The first way of doing it is the easier way of doing the shortcut. Once the starting countdown has finished turn back and boost three of your mushrooms or if your doing a race, you don't need to boost anything. After boosting, you will fall down. After that, you will be brought back up just before a ramp. Then,go up the left edge of the ramp, after that do a trick in the air. Now, you will see that the player has gone up on a big ridge. you must go over three ridges to complete one lap. The first ridge is the one you had jump up to. The second ridge is right after you land, go straight and you will see there is a bump there. Go over it and turn. Try not to accelerate to much so that you don't fall down. Then the third ridge is right before where you landed on the big ridge. You must turn and drive pass the sharp corner of the ridge. Again, try not to accelerate to much so that you don't fall down the ridge. after you have successfully gone over these ridges, you will see that the player has gone to the second lap. Repeat it 2 more times until the player has finished the coarse. And now is how to do the 2nd method. After the starting countdown, sloly turn and boost a mushroom. Now you will see that the player has jump up to the big ridge. Then repeat the steps three times. And if you want, before you finish you still have two more mushrooms, you can boost them and fall off the ridge. The boost from the mushrooms will make the vehicle go faster to the finish line. Don't get upset if you can't complete this shortcut right after you read this. This shortcut is required to have a lot of practices to complete it.
