Merloo

Merloo.

Merloo is a member of the Tribe of Ancients who is indirectly seen in the form of a stained glass window in Mirror Hall of Super Paper Mario. According to Tippi, Merloo was very wise in his time and is even thought to be the author of the Light Prognosticus. (However, Merlon states that Merlumina is the Light Prognosticus's author; it is unknown who is the canonical writer.) Interestingly, unlike all other sages among the Ancients, Merloo possesses no current inhabitant of Flipside or Flopside who bears any direct resemblance to him, although some other "Shaman"-like characters of past Paper Mario games do look slightly similar to Merloo, who takes on the appearance of a mustache-less, green-robed character slightly resembling Merlon.

It is also very interesting to note that Merloo is said to be a powerful, dimension-controlling magician; he therefore shares many skill-related characteristics with the villain Dimentio, making him a possible relative candidate. Another possible modern-day descendant is Bestovius, who also has the ability to flip between dimensions, though neither have been confirmed as relatives. Notably, all the male Ancients depicted in the stained glass portraits seem to bear resemblance to Merlon in some way, so it may be argued he is descended from all of them

He bears very minor resemblance to Toad, though this may be coincidental.
