Bowser Spaces are spaces in the Mario Party series, where if a character steps on one, Bowser will appear and do his evil mischief. But if the player had no coins, Bowser gave them coins (the amount varies with each game).
In the first Mario Party, Bowser made the player do one of his events via roulette. His events are:
- Coins For Bowser: Bowser took 10-30 Coins from that player.
- Bowser's Balloon Burst: Like the original Balloon Burst, but everyone who lost got coins taken away.1
- Bowser's Face Lift: Like the original Face Lift, but players that didn't get 90 points or more lost coins. If all players achieved more than 90 points, Bowser would steal coins from the player who landed on his space.1
- Bowser's Tug o' War: Like the Tug o' War, except the losing side lost coins to Bowser.1
- Bowser Revolution: Bowser took everyone's Coins and split them evenly among all the players.
- Bowser's Chance Time: Like Chance Time, but Bowser rigs it so that he will always be on the receiving end of the trade. Unlike normal Chance Time, Stars cannot be lost.
- 100 Star Present, 1000 Coin Present, and Star Steal: These are all in gold letters. The cursor never landed on these events.
1 The amount of coins taken ranges from 10-50, and usually correlates with the current turn number.
If the player had a Star, but no coins, Bowser gave them 10 coins in exchange for that Star.
In Mario Party 2, the Mini-Game events were gone, and four new events were added – two of them were made specifically for this game. They are:
- Bowser's Coin Potluck: Like Coins for Bowser, but he takes coins from everyone.
- Bowser's Multiplying Toads: Bowser did a little "magic" trick that made two Toads appear on the board. However, one of them was Baby Bowser in disguise. Anyone who paid him the 20-coin fee made him reveal himself and gave them a Fake Star.
- Bowser's Appearing Act: Getting this makes Bowser leave, then appear at Baby Bowser's position as the board villain at the end of the turn. This is exactly like using the Bowser Bomb.
- Stars-Packed to Go: This is a gold-lettered event added to the ones from the last game. The cursor will land on these sometimes, but doing so makes Bowser run away, leaving the player with red on their panels.
In Mario Party 3, Only Bowser's Coin Potluck and Stars-Packed to Go went on to the next installment, while five new events were introduced. These are:
- Bowser's Curse: Bowser flashed violet, then put a curse on all the players that forced them to move 1-3 spaces on their next turn, much like a Poison Mushroom, unless they used an item that cancelled the effect.
- Bowser's Reverse Curse: Bowser flashed green, then put a curse on all the players that forced them to move backwards on their next turn, much like a Reverse Mushroom, unless they used an item that cancelled the effect.
- Bowser Shuffle: Bowser flashed yellow, then used his magic to switch players' positions.
- Bowser Phone Giveaway: Bowser gave the player a Bowser Phone absolutely free.
- Bowser Suit Giveaway: Bowser gave the player a Bowser Suit absolutely free.
The Bowser Revolution had Bowser flash red during the distribution.
In Mario Party 4, the roulette was gotten rid of, and there were few events left to show. For instance, Baby Bowser, now named Koopa Kid, took coins from players (one or all) instead of Bowser himself. But when Bowser did show up, he flattened the player who landed on the space, and decided the event himself. The Bowser Revolution, Shuffle and Suit stayed, and one new event was added: the Bowser Mini-Game. This event was the most common event, where players had to play a Mini-Game with Bowser. The loser had to give up coins or items.
In Mario Party 5, Bowser decided upon doing the Revolution, Shuffle, or Mini-Game events, or a new one: the Bowser Bonus, where he gave a Ztar to the player, reducing their Star count by one. Sometimes, Donkey Kong intervened and sucker punched Bowser. He blames DK for ruining the event, and leaves – with some of the player's coins.
In Mario Party 6, he only resorted to two events: the Mini-Games and the Bonus, only the Bonus involved him rolling a Dice Block to determine what the player lost – coins or Stars. The Bowser Revolution was in the game too, but only as a bonus in the Last Five Turns Event.
In Mario Party 7, the Koopa Kid Space did all the original dirty work, and the Bowser Space was left with having Bowser do two types of Mini-Games for the player to do – Single-player, and Multiplayer. If they lost, Bowser took away coins or Stars. Every 5 turns, a Bowser event would occur. (this was not triggered by a Bowser space)This was called 'Bowser Time!' and has many results, depending on the board.
In Mario Party 8, these spaces appear after someone landed on a DK Space. When someone lands on one of these, Bowser appears to do the opposite of whatever DK would do on that particular board, so that the player's progress will be hindered. After the event is done, the spaces revert back into DK Spaces (also, the shape of the space was different with each board, including the tutorial, along with the background being purple on some boards). He did the following on each board:
- DK's Treetop Temple: Moves the Star to a different location.
- Goomba's Booty Boardwalk: Orders Podoboos to attack the player several times. Although they can be dodged, each successful hit will cost the player ten coins.
- King Boo's Haunted Hideaway: Covers all the pitfalls with his own platforms. He'll then steal a Star from the first player who reaches one of his platforms, send them back to the start, then leave. If the player has no Stars, Bowser will give them ten coins. Bowser will also leave if the house is shuffled by King Boo, or if someone lands on a DK Space.
- Shy Guy's Perplex Express: Bowser's Bad-Breath Express will overtake the current locomotive. If the first player who reaches Bowser has a Star, he'll steal it. If they don't have any Stars, Bowser will give them ten coins. The Bad-Breath Express will leave once either someone passes Bowser, or if someone lands on a DK Space.
- Koopa's Tycoon Town: Steals a lump of coins from one of the five main hotels, mainly those of the top three investors.
- Bowser's Warped Orbit: Bowser will steal a Star from the player upfront. If they don't have any Stars, Bowser will give them ten coins.
In Mario Party DS Bowser would randomly chose one of four options:
- Gimme Coins: The player would lose 10 or 20 coins
- Gimme Stars: The player would lose a star
- Gimme Charity: The player would have to give 10 coins to each of the other players. If the player had less than 30 coins, they would give as many coins as possible.
- Gimme Equality: Bowser would redistribute all the coins so that every player had an equal amount of coins. (Nearly always happens when the player who landed on the space has no coins with them)
The Mario Party 6 Bowser Space appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a sticker, but it is renamed Bowser Coin for unknown reasons. It isn't that it came from another game, because the game appearance is labled as Mario Party 6.
