Mario & Luigi: Brothership is an upcoming role-playing game set to be released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch on November 7, 2024. First announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024, it is the sixth original installment in the Mario & Luigi series and its eighth installment overall, following the 2015 original title, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, and the 2018 remake, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, respectively. It marks the debut of Mario & Luigi on home consoles, and Kevin Afghani as the voice of the Mario brothers in this series. Much like Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, this game is a graphically pivotal entry in the series; this time, it fully incorporates 3D environments and character models, and a more artwork-accurate art style. It also introduces a mechanic where Luigi will come up with an idea for specific situations, indicated by an L-shaped exclamation point, known as Luigi Logic. Some can give him new abilities to use in the overworld to help Mario proceed, like squeezing through narrow gates, while others can be situational commands against bosses that can be used to land the finisher against them.[10]
Brothership is the first Mario & Luigi title to not be developed by AlphaDream, which ceased operations immediately after filing for bankruptcy on October 1, 2019. However, several developers from AlphaDream who were originally involved in previous Mario & Luigi games return for the development of this game.[11]
Plot
In the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi is chased by a swarm of bees in a forest near Peach's Castle, and accidentally runs off a cliff before Mario saves him. Afterwards, Mario and Luigi's hands begin to glow, and a large, bright portal materializes from them in the sky, which teleports the brothers away.[9]
The game focuses on Mario and Luigi going on an adventure to restore peace to Concordia after a disaster caused the continent to separate into different islands. After finding herself beached on Shipshape Island, Connie teams up with Snoutlet to grow a new Uni-Tree to connect the islands back together again.
The sea of the world of Concordia acts as the game's primary setting. Shipshape Island is a structure described as "part ship, part island" and is depicted as the main hub. Mario and Luigi launch themselves out of the Shipshape's cannon to explore distinct islands.[12]

- Enemies have their health shown as health bars, beneath their name and level, when selected.
- Characters now have more voice acting, with unique vocal samples given to NPCs during dialogue similar to the Nintendo Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.[10][15]
- Upon initiating a battle, instead of Mario and Luigi just being in the battle, they run towards where the enemies are in battle.
- Luigi can act independently from Mario at command, like stopping in place or doing something separately, unlike in previous games, where he always follows Mario's movements.
- Several stat options to level up are now locked behind higher ranks.
