The PLAY WILD! Challenge was an event taking place in February and March 2024 in Japanese cities.[1] The event was a competition promoting Super Nintendo World and the upcoming Donkey Kong Country expansion at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.[1]
Details
The event took place on a stage; the left side was based on the main Super Mario-themed area of Super Nintendo World, while the right side was based on the Donkey Kong-themed Donkey Kong Country area. Two giant inflatable balloons of Mario and Donkey Kong were present on both sides of the stage.[2] Participants had to fill out a form on Universal Studios Japan's website until January 24, 2024 to enter the competition.[1] The event's opening ceremony featured Japanese YouTuber Hikakin and actress Suzu Yamanouchi as guests.[2]
The event consisted in a competition where participants had to obtain the highest score in two challenges; the first one featured ? Blocks, while the second featured Bongos and was based on one of the Power-Up Band challenges at the park. During the challenges, some of the ? Blocks/Bongos would light up, and participants would have to hit them in time to obtain points while under a time limit. A sticker was given to participants at the end of a challenge with a design based on their score.[2]
Participants who posted photos and videos of the event on social networking website X could win an invitation to visit the Donkey Kong Country area prior to its official opening.[1]
