|Really fun like any of the M&L games, albeit easy to cheese since the babies make it so that you can't really lose everyone on the same turn, so you can just 1-up Mushroom through it all. I also felt like this game was too structured, if that makes any sense. (Do some stuff, mid-boss, do a dungeon, boss, repeat 5 times.) Enjoyable regardless.

The "SPEEDRUN!" stamp from Super Mario Maker 2.

Hey, this is ViableBunnyBudd, or just "Viable" for short. I like Mario games, which is why I'm here. Crazy, right? I love watching people play games well, and I love attempting to mimic that sometimes.

I'm the guy that makes the Hint Art for the Shroom. I'm having a lot of fun with that so far, and from what I can gather other people like it too, which makes me happy.

Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong with my wiki edits btw.

Mario games I've played (plus opinions!)

This article is under construction. Therefore, please excuse its informal appearance while it is being worked on. We hope to have it completed as soon as possible.

(Haha)

NOTE: Most of the older games weren't played on their original consoles, I played them on WiiVC or NSO. I don't use the savestate or rewind features though because I think they draw away from the "intended experience".

Game Cover Game Name Overview of my dumb opinions
In-game title of the Nintendo Entertainment System port of Donkey Kong Donkey Kong (NES) Don't really care
In-game title of Donkey Kong Jr. Donkey Kong Jr. (NES) Don't really care
In-game title of the NES port of Mario Bros. Mario Bros. (NES) I care slightly more
Wrecking Crew NES cover Wrecking Crew (NES) I like this one! The whole level-making thing is pretty great, even if it's hard to adjust to because... it's on the NES.
United States box art for Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. (NES) It's good, but I'd rather play just about anything else.
Japanese box art for Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels ("NES") I don't like it much... but I'll do the whole "play the game eight times" thing eventually just to say I did it. I have beat this game without powerups, warp zones, and savestates before. (It took a few Game Overs though, thank goodness you can restart from the world you died at rather than square one)
North American box art for Super Mario Bros. 2 Super Mario Bros. 2 (NES) Good
North American box art for Super Mario Bros. 3 Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) Very good
North American box art for Dr. Mario on NES Dr. Mario (NES) I like it. Still have yet to do Level 20 on high though. I'm not too good at the falling-block genre.
North American box art for Yoshi on the Nintendo Entertainment System Yoshi (NES) Don't care. This one's boring.
North American box art of Wario's Woods for the Nintendo Entertainment System Wario's Woods (NES) I like it but the lack of music diversity gets to me... really interesting take on the falling-block genre though. It's fun.
North American box art for Super Mario Land Super Mario Land (GB) It's nothing particularly exciting.
North American box art for Dr. Mario on Game Boy Dr. Mario (GB) Imagine the NES version, but a little worse. You get this.
North American box art for Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins Super Mario Land 2 (GB) It has a nice vibe to it. The open-endedness is a neat idea. There are a bunch of design choices I don't understand with this one, mostly level-specific things... it's like Little Timmy hacked in and changed some of the layouts.
North American box art for Super Mario World Super Mario World (SNES) On par with Mario 3. Very clean. My number one nitpick would be that the Cape Feather is probably a bit overpowered. It's generally a great time to romp around here and find secrets.
Super Mario Kart North American box art Super Mario Kart (SNES) Now, I don't really rage at games, but this game reeeeally pushes my limits... I will say this though: I love watching people who are good at this game. The live competitions are fun to watch and I'd recommend seeing some.
North American box art for Super Mario All-Stars Super Mario All-Stars (SNES) I think it's generally better for the first three games but worse for Mario 3.
North American box art for Donkey Kong Country Donkey Kong Country (SNES) It has a sort of vibe that I can't really describe... it's like the game just feels dated. There's also a LOT of times where you'll get blindsided by stuff you couldn't react to, almost like the devs didn't know where the camera would be when designing the levels. Can't say I enjoyed it. I will say that it's another game where I enjoy watching people that care about it play.
North American box art of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES) I liked most of it, though as soon as I figured out the 100% requirements I was like "Yeah I'm not doing this right now lol", and I still haven't 100% this one. Maybe one day.
Box art for Mario's Super Picross Mario's Super Picross (SNES) I've been picking away at this one. All I can say is this: It sure is Picross.
North American box art for Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES) Oh my god this one is so much better than the first game. 100%-ing this was a great time.
North American box art for Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! Donkey Kong Country 3 (SNES) The way this game feels is so... unique. The wilderness vibes(?) are really strong, and it's oddly captivating to me. In between DKCs 1 and 2 imo.
North American box art of Super Mario 64. Super Mario 64 (N64) Some aspects of it are kinda painful (cough cough Dire Dire Docks, Aquarium, camera in general) but I appreciate the vast majority of this game. It's great for just messing around if you feel like it. I keep coming back to this one and find it good for all sorts of challenge runs.
North American box art for Paper Mario Paper Mario (N64) Great role-playing game. I love the dialogue and the interconnectedness of it. I remember finding this game hard as a kid, though when revisiting it I was like "How did I ever struggle with this lol"
North American box art for Mario Golf on Game Boy Color Mario Golf (GBC) When I first played this, I was expecting this to be a lame-o potato. But honestly? I was surprised with how much enjoyment I got from this. I rate it "pretty good"/10.
North American box art for Wario Land 3 Wario Land 3 (GBC) I kind of love it and hate it at the same time. It has some interesting moments, and also some moments that feel like they were made specifically to annoy you. The golf stuff gets a little old by the end. I'd say it's a mostly positive experience though.
North American box art for WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! (GBA) It definitely feels like a "first in the series" game, but it's still really fun. I don't know if you can go wrong with a format like this.
North American box art for Super Mario Sunshine. Super Mario Sunshine (GC) This is one of those "beautiful mess" games. Would I call this game good? God no, but I enjoy it nonetheless. I really appreciate what this game tries to do, even if it sometimes didn't work. The whole connected setting of Isle Delfino was a good idea.
MarioLuigiPartnersTimeBox.jpg Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (DS) Really fun like any of the M&L games, albeit easy to cheese since the babies make it so that you can't really lose everyone on the same turn, so you can just 1-up Mushroom through it all. I also felt like this game was too structured, if that makes any sense. (Do some stuff, mid-boss, do a dungeon, boss, repeat 5 times.) Enjoyable regardless.
Box art of New Super Mario Bros. New Super Mario Bros. (DS) Very good/10
North American box art for Mario Party DS Mario Party DS (DS) Great Mario Party, it only gets overlooked because it doesn't have a number attached to it. (That's what it feels like anyway...) I really like the tiny theme they did with this one, it's cute.
The North American cover of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS) Probably one of my favorite games with "Mario" in the title. The only parts I would pick on would be finicky microphone moments. That and a few QOL features present in later titles but not this one.
North American cover of the Nintendo DS video game, WarioWare: D.I.Y. WarioWare: D.I.Y. (DS) I LOVE that this game exists at all. Honestly a great tool to introduce kids to the concept of game development. I kinda wish that it wasn't touch controls only, but I guess limitations had to exist somewhere. We can't overwhelm them after all. It does also hinge on you being a creative person, because if not, uh... there's not much else to do.
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! Boxart. Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem (DS) It's a good puzzle game with a great level editor to boot.

Do you have a favorite Mario game?

Uhhhh Super Mario Galaxy maybe??? I haven't truly decided.

Q&A

If you want to ask me something I might put it here.

Long-term Mario goals that have nothing to do with the Mariowiki

I'd like to complete a speedrun of every (or at least every mainline) Mario game. Maybe even multiple categories of those games.

Speedrun times I have

  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii Any% - 26:57
  • Super Mario Galaxy 2 Any% - 3:46:54 (I did one run on a whim and that's what I got)
  • Wario Land 3 Any% Glitchless - 2:10:00 (Another "on a whim" run)
  • Paper Mario 3D Land Any% (fangame) - 18:14 (current WR)
  • Various levels in Super Mario Maker 2 - I'll optimize some really good levels that I come across.
  • Various ILs in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - I played a lot on the Wii U version, and the leaderboards are no longer accessible... I had a top 3 time for one level when they shut down haha
  • Various ILs in New Super Mario Bros U. Deluxe - some of them are WR's, mostly due to lack of interest though
  • Various categories in Wario DESTROYS a Glass of Milk (fangame) - currently have 3 WR's in it

I would like to do some more but my problem right now is that I don't have a good way of recording anything that isn't a fangame.

Mario characters I like for no particular reason
