In Super Mario World, they can be picked up and will also disappear after a short time.

Actually they're called Grab Blocks in SMW (see page 22 of the manual). I also don't think they have anything to do with the actual Ice Blocks from SMB3, Yoshi's Island, and the other games mentioned in the article. So I suggest to remove the SMW info, unless those blocks are referred to as Ice Blocks anywhere. Opinions? Time Questions 17:31, 28 May 2008 (EDT)

Grab Blocks[edit]

Given their Japanese name indicating they're frozen (ブルブルブロック, shivering/freezing block), and the fact that it acts almost identically to the iced blocks from Super Mario Bros. 3 except they're no longer slippery, do they really belong as a separate article? Ice Block vs. Ice Chunk[edit]

Should we split out the Ice Chunks from NSMBU; more specifically, the ones from Piranha Plants on Ice? My thought is just that because Ice Chunks are affected by gravity whereas Ice Blocks aren't, maybe they're being considered different objects. I'm specifically referring to the large blocks in Piranha Plants on Ice from New Super Mario Bros. U.

Unlike Ice Blocks, which usually function as simple platforms, Ice Chunks are much larger and have different properties, which is enough to warrant a split.

Comments[edit]

How about the sliding ones from SM64? The prioritization of this article is screwy to begin with, but this seems an odd choice to split first IMO. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 13:55, June 14, 2020 (EDT)

This is probably supposed to be a miscellaneous object instead of a block, but I'm not sure if they're the same thing in both games given the different function and appearance - in Encyclopedia Super Mario Bros., the New Super Mario Bros. Wii one is named 「氷カベ」 (Kōri Kabe, "Ice Wall") on page 150, whereas the New Super Mario Bros. U one (the one called Ice Chunk) is named 「氷のかたまり」 (Kōri no Katamari, "Ice Bundle", incidentally named after the metal crate that can also crush the player) on page 215. Changed accordingly. Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 14:25, June 14, 2020 (EDT)

Are they actually called Ice Chunks? I'm not seeing anything other than "Ice" or "Ice Block". Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:37, June 19, 2020 (EDT)

Yes, in the NSMBU Prima guide (pages 74 and 75). Toadette icon CTTT.pngFont of Archivist Toadette's signature(T|C) 17:38, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
Should be added when the page is split, then. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 17:40, June 19, 2020 (EDT)
