Just out of curiosity, were they ever called "Beach Koopas" outside of Super Mario World? - Walkazo 21:46, 13 January 2009 (EST)

As far as I'm concerned, no. --Marcelagus (TCE)
Now this is something I dont know. --User:Paper Culex

I seem to recall them being named Beach Koopas in the player's guide for Yoshi's Island. I could be wrong, though. Vent 21:59, 30 May 2012 (EDT)

Brawl

For a long time, it's been listed that a Troopa's shell is broken during that one cutscene in Brawl, but I've never seen it as that. I've always seen the Troopa getting knocked partially underground, with the things surrounding him not being shell pieces, but small piles of dirt....exactly like what happens during one of DK's actual in-game moves. Can anyone confirm or deny this without a shadow of a doubt? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:44, 7 May 2018 (EDT)

So I rewatched the video (repeatedly, poor Koopa) and found a few contradictions. 1) You can't even see the shell. For all we know, it didn't even have one to begin with. By the time you see the Koopa Troopa, DK's fist is already on it. 2) The "shell" debris appears to be in front of the Koopa, not coming from it. You can see the same effects underneath the Koopa as the Koopa is getting embedded into the ground, which would cause dirt displacement. There's no doubt that DK would definitely be able to break a Koopa shell, seeing as he's strong enough to punch the moon out of orbit, but I don't think they'd show an in-use Koopa Shell getting smashed (ah puns). An empty Green Shell gets smashed all the time, though. Alex95sig1.pngAlex95sig2.png 18:53, 7 May 2018 (EDT)

Classification

This thing is technically not a species. MarioLover54 (talk) 14:41, August 2, 2019 (EDT)

Yeah well this is how this wiki works. I'd suggest changing the "derived species" parameter to "variant," but that would take a while to change. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 14:45, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
Not necessarily, I'd agree in doing that change, and if everyone agrees, the change can be immediately implemented, only if there is a disagreement a proposal is needed, and effectively that template has too rigid wording for it to work with enemy variants.--Mister Wu (talk) 17:33, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
On a different wiki I'm in the process of building up, the parameters are "variant of," "variant," "relatives," and "comparable." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:40, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
We have the Parent species, Derived species and Related species sections on the infoboxes, having a rename of all three as a short-term change would save us a lot of headaches. Maybe removing relatives and using the other terms?--Mister Wu (talk) 18:53, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
Problem with that is cases like Spoing/Sprangler and Monty Mole/Rocky Wrench where they are definitely related, but how so is vague. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:23, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
Well, then, the relatives field can be added, it will of course be empty for all the current characters since it doesn't correspond to any of the currently used fields. What can be put there will require a spearate discussion.--Mister Wu (talk) 22:25, August 2, 2019 (EDT)
Not characters, species. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 00:56, August 3, 2019 (EDT)
Yes, I meant species. Now I think we can put the changes in the talk page of the template, if nobody is against the changes, we can go on.--Mister Wu (talk) 18:46, August 3, 2019 (EDT)

Move?

Should this be moved to Unshelled Koopa Troopa? The name's been used twice now (albeit shortened to Unshelled Koopa the second time), and the current "Beach Koopa" title only appeared in that one Yoshi's Island guide. Blinker (talk) 08:32, December 26, 2023 (EST)

I agree! This is pretty much a "berry" situation. I was considering to address that, but was reluctant because of the Bomber Bill situation. (though i think that's a different case entirely). --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 08:36, December 26, 2023 (EST)
I agree that Bomber Bill is a different case. The name Banzai Bill has been used regularly since Super Mario World, even being used in-game, which can't be said for Beach Koopa, and then there's the Bomber/Boomer inconsistency. Blinker (talk) 15:16, December 28, 2023 (EST)
It's safe to say that "Beach Koopa" was just an one-off name, in the likes of "Mace Penguin", "Flopsy Fish", and such. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 04:05, December 29, 2023 (EST)
