Weren't we not to add every update from the Dojo? I don't think a new Pokémon is big enough to be featured on the Main Page of MarioWiki. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 06:36, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
- A new Pokémon is just as important as an Assist Trophy, and we are putting a bit of emphasis on Assist Trophy (Not that it has gone on this Template yet), so I think they should be allowed on. Or, either both are allowed in this template, or neither. My Bloody Valentine
- Wait, this is a big one, cos' it confirms the 4th Generation in Brawl. Maybe we shouldn't do EVERY Pokémon update, but, because this confirms the long speculated rumour that the 4th Generation is in, maybe we should keep Munchlax, but forget all the rest. How about that? My Bloody Valentine
- Did we have assist trophies here? Not that I can remember. The guideline is:

it is NOT:
* a place for every Smashbros.com update. Please only include major updates (i.e. a newcomer). If you're not sure if a particular update is worthy, ask at the talk page here (not Template talk:News) first.
- I don't think a Pokémon or an Assist is worthy enough. Only Mario Assist Trophies and Mario Special moves should be here. About some generation of Pokémon in, doesn't sound like a big deal, it would be natural just to include every generation there is to date. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 06:45, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
- The 4th Generation is Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, and every Pokémon in it. More specifically, the most recent installment of the games. AND, because Brawl started production before Pokémon Diamond & Pearl was even announced, it was long believed that the 4th Generation Pokémon would not make it in the game. This update proves it wrong. My Bloody Valentine But, whatever you choose to do, is fine by me.
- As big as that might be for a Pokemon Wiki, this is the MarioWiki, DP. Remember the Red argument on Talk:Pokémon Trainer. While this update may be more important than others, it's an average update for this wiki, so let's keep this one out. I was really thinking as far as Dojo to put either new features (such as My Music) or any newcomer characters only. Wa TC@Y 16:31, 10 September 2007 (EDT)
- I didn't care what anyone did, it seemed pointless to me as well. I was just stating that it seemed interesting, but, I don't really think it belongs here. Then, I just decided to explain to Cobold what the 4th Generation was. Honestly, I only think that New Characters (Both Newcomers and Veterans), new stages, new parts of the Subspace Emissary, and Mario Special Moves and Items should be allowed on this, if it is Brawl info. My Bloody Valentine What do you think?
- Should we add new stages to this Template? My Bloody Valentine

DP - Super Smash Bros. is in the tertiary level of Importance. Only Mario related SSB info is news-worthy. -- Son of Suns
- Then why the heck does it say Mario and Nintendo News? I was told that a Newcomer, both new and returning, were allowed on this, and now you tell me they aren't? My Bloody Valentine
- We want major Nintendo news, like "Nintendo was recently purchased by Microsoft". Ice Climbers aren't Newcomers - they are veterans. It's just not big news. -- Son of Suns
- Are you completely sure it isn't big news? My Bloody Valentine

- I don't think it is, especially not big enough to replace a major game that has been just released. -- Son of Suns
- I still think it is big news. Maybe you could put the Ice Climbers on it, but still make the DK Jungle Climber part the main header of the Template. My Bloody Valentine NOW I see what you mean.

Is it worth mentioning that Ashley's Theme is featured in Super Smash Bros. Brawl? --Grandy02 05:26, 9 October 2007 (EDT)
Our level what gets on this template from the Dojo has come quite low - from "only a newcomer" (rule by Steve) to gimmick demos delivered with the game. I don't think that's as notable as a newcomer. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:28, 25 January 2008 (EST)
- That's true, but then again, I don't think any of the other upcoming Marioverse games (Like that Dr. Mario thing) have any news as of recently. So yeah, we end up filling the News with Brawl stuff because there isn't anything notewhorty to say about the other upcoming games. Blitzwing (talk · gnome work)
- Yeah really! The Shroom has had the same content in the upcoming games section for months! HyperToad
Why don't we add Ness or Marth. HyperToad
- The Dojo posts them in a way that people first have to click "Yes, I want to see secret content" to see them. Thus we shouldn't put them on the Main Page. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 11:46, 8 February 2008 (EST)
- I fail to see why that's our promblem. If not including infomation to benift others shouldn't be done on the wiki (using the f-word on Bob Hoskins' article of example), then why are we doing that? Before you give me some lame excuse like "Those are completely different", listen. Even if it isn't censorship, it's still removing something to avoid someobdy seeing it unless they want to, which appearently, ALOT of users here think shouldn't be done. Plus, when did we start following Dojo's example? Remember that PT thing on SSBB's talk? HyperToad
Poisonous Pins?[edit]
...Is that really needed? It just doesn't seem necessary to me... My Bloody Valentine
- The news section is not an article. If you (KingMario) can get enough information for an article no that, it can go there. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 09:06, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
Captain Rainbow?[edit]
Captain Rainbow is out in Japan today. Is that worth mentioning in the News template? --Grandy02 07:39, 28 August 2008 (EDT)
- I think so (actually, I already put in the template before reading your comment). There are so little news we put in there, so I think it's worth mentioning. Time Questions 08:25, 28 August 2008 (EDT)

Donkey Kong Country 3 for Japanese VC[edit]
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! has been released on the Virtual Console in Japan today:[1]. Worth an entry? --Grandy02 08:12, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
- I think so. Time Questions 17:16, 21 October 2008 (EDT)
- Okay, I added it. Even if only very few people here are from Japan, it's a key region for obvious reasons. --Grandy02 08:59, 22 October 2008 (EDT)
Quick question[edit]
The website for Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story opened today. Because the policy's been changed, I'd like to know if this is important enough to put on the main page for future reference. Para Yoshi Wahoo! 19:09, 3 September 2009 (EDT)

CharlesMartinet Twitter Portal[edit]
Am I the only one not seeing any of the Twitter posts relating to the recording for the mysterious new game anymore? It's possible Nintendo wanted to keep the game a secret and had Martinet take 'em down... YELLOWYOSHI398
Relevancy[edit]
Um... Time Q, the header in the Main Page says "Mario & Nintendo News". That is a Nintendo-related new. --™ The 'Shroom 13:53, 24 February 2010 (EST)
- That's right, but obviously we put Nintendo news there only in some special cases (when new consoles are released, not just when new games are released). There's really no relevance in the fact that a console comes with some random games totally unrelated to our wiki. Time Questions 13:59, 24 February 2010 (EST)

Super Mario Wii 2?[edit]
What is that? ! 18:08, 6 June 2011 (EDT)

It says MP9 has been announced at E3, and I'm assuming that's because of some logo seen at the end. Doesn't that count as speculation? They never actually said anything about it. Fawfulfury65

April Fools![edit]
Time for April Fools Day 2014!
For April Fools Day, we need to have fake news (presumably good news that will get excitement) with links to pages that would be created, fake or bad trivia, bad poll, and a fake featured article. Please post some ideas below that can be used tomorrow! M a r i oredgoldred 18:36, 31 March 2014 (EDT)
News[edit]
I just found some interesting article:

Can I put that in the news template?

Mario and the Warp Pipe seem to have been given a reference in the closing ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympic games... --A gossip-loving Toad (Talk) 00:56, 22 August 2016 (EDT)
- It's been covered on the References in live-action television page. Remember that the News template is for new media/game releases and announcements.

Is there a place where old News Archives are stored? If so, can we have the link on the template, cause I don't see why not? 23:27, 23 August 2016 (EDT)

Super Nintendo World has commenced construction[edit]
On June 9, 2017, Nintendo and Universal Theme Parks had a 'Ground Breaking Ceremony' (the start of construction), and the Mario Kart ride will be one of the attractions. So far, Super Nintendo World has a Mario-themed area, so it's Mario-related news. Video of the ceremony, with Miyamoto as a special guest. Infinite8 08:44, 8 June 2017 (EDT)
Chronology[edit]
Recently, Time Turner has insisted that the news of Mario Segale's death should be more recent than the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Direct simply because the former was officially announced after the latter and despite the latter actually taking place after the former. My question is, are there any further opinions concerning which goes first? So far, only Doc von Schmeltwick agrees with me. (T|C) 10:37, 2 November 2018 (EDT)
- I can see it both ways, although I think it would make more sense for more recent news to go to the top (so in this case, Segale's death would be first, and the Smash direct would come afterwards), otherwise it might get buried and people won't notice because the most "recent" item is something they've already seen. Granted, this situation is very rare and probably won't happen again. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 16:32, 10 November 2018 (EST)

Mario nintendo news[edit]
Shouldn't it say "Super Mario" and Nintendo news on the front page? Mario is the character, and Super Mario is the games.
