A Rubee is a type of currency found in Super Paper Mario. They resemble small red gems.
In Chapter 2, Mario breaks a vase belonging to Mimi, under the guise of Merlee's maid. Mimi orders Mario to pay for the vase in Rubees — one million of them, to be exact. Mario only had Coins on him, however, so Mimi puts him to work to pay off the debt. Mario starts off working just like the other captives, but soon discovers a massive hoard of Rubees, allowing him to pay off the debt.
Trivia
- Rubees may have been named after combining Rubies with Rupees, the currency in The Legend of Zelda series (which were named after the currency of India). Further comparing the two is the fact that they both resemble oblong octagonal gems. However, Rupees come in many colors and denominations, while Rubees only come in red. Rubees are also almost identical to the gem treasures of Clu Clu Land, which some have theorized that Rupees were based on.
- Flipside Tokens greatly resemble Rubees, being simple recolors of them.
