Can we call this Mini Blargg? User:Mecha-Boss Unit
I think we should just merge this to Blargg. There is no indication that this is a separate sub-species from Blargg.--Knife (talk) 03:03, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- It has a different name in Japanese, that's enough of an indication. On that topic, shouldn't this be moved to Kounbaba? It's an official name; not an official English one, but far better than a conjectural name.--vellidragon 00:21, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
Hadn't noticed they had different Japanese names. If that's the case, I'm all for moving it to the Japanese name.--Knife (talk) 15:50, 3 December 2010 (UTC)
If Kounbaba translates to "Juvenille Blaargh", shouldn't that be the name of the article? KoopaGuy (talk)
Entry in the Player Guide
Apparently, it doesn't have its own entry in the Player Guide, but eventually mentioned on the level layout. -- FanOfYoshi 12:50, 27 September 2018 (EDT)
New name
- Should we move this to Blargg (little) given that the SMW2 Advance 3 and Yoshi's Island DS strategy guides call it that? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:55, May 8, 2023 (EDT)
Decide what to do with "Red Blargg"
Template:SettledTPP Template:ProposalOutcome I think that Blarggs, introduced in Super Mario World, resemble lazy-eyed lava dinosaurs, but more recent games depicts them as blob-like beings with large mouths and beady eyes, with Yoshi's Story sharing that distinction, abiet depicting them with small arms. For example, the Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island Player's Guide refers Blarggs to as Red Blarggs, whilst the Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 Player's Guide and the Yoshi's Island DS Player's Guide refer to them as just Blarggs. Perhaps we should decide if we could merge with Blargg, move to Blargg (Yoshi franchise), or do nothing.

Merge with "Blargg"
- GuntherBB (talk) Per proposal
- Pseudo (talk) This enemy is functionally identical to the regular Blarggs from Super Mario World and establishes the basic design for Blarggs in Yoshi's Island (even though that design is a lot different from the one in Super Mario World). It makes sense for me for this to occupy the same article with a note mentioning that it has a different name according to some sources in Yoshi's Island.
- Blinker (talk) Per Pseudo. This kinda reminds me of the Minipuku/Pukupuku thing from Yoshi's Story (I've spent too much time reading through talk pages...), and other similar size-related confusions. Who knows, maybe they renamed the small "Unbaba" to better distinguish it from the "gargantua" varieties. Either way, I don't feel particularly strongly about this, I just think it makes sense.
Move to "Blargg (Yoshi franchise)"
- PrincessPeachFan (talk) It's called Ko Unbaba in Japan, much smaller than the regular Blarrgs and hasn't appeared in many games.
- Arend (talk) Per PrincessPeachFan; as for why renaming the page instead of keeping it "Red Blargg", well, it's because "Blargg" is simply the more common name; they were only called Red Blarggs in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, and it also appears to be a single instance as well (from what I can tell, the Nintendo Player's Guide on this game only refers to this enemy once, during Stage 1-4 Burt the Bashful's Fort, and doesn't talk about it in the Enemy Index for some reason; the same guide also refers to Nep-Enuts as "blue Gargantua Blarggs" during Stage 2-3 What's Gusty Taste Like, but calls them "Nep-Enuts" again in the Enemy Index, so make that for what you will). Also of note, Japan never called these guys "Unbaba Aka" or "Unbaba (Aka)" like with Gargantua Blargg.
- FanOfYoshi (talk) Per all and my comment.
Do nothing
- Swallow (talk) Still not completely the same subject, also opposing moving per LinkTheLefty's comment.
- Hewer (talk) Per LinkTheLefty's comment - if we must move it to Blargg, I don't think "Yoshi franchise" is a good idea for the identifier, since it's misleading and implies that the thing that distinguishes it from the other Blargg(s) is that it's in the Yoshi franchise, which isn't very accurate.
- Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) - If it were written as "Unbaba (small)" then maybe it could be merged, but as it is, it doesn't really sit right with me.
- ThePowerPlayer (talk) Per LinkTheLefty. The article shouldn't be moved to "Blargg (Yoshi franchise)", because that would involve the Blarggs from Yoshi's Story, which are much larger, are not a solid color, have googly eyes instead of beady eyes, and have arms.
- MegaBowser64 (talk) I'll seal teh deal, per.
- Sdman213 (talk) Per all.
Comments
- We should at least acknowledge their smaller size and completely separate Japanese names. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 21:24, July 28, 2023 (EDT)
- After "Needlenose" was moved to "Pokey (projectile)", it would only make sense to do the same for "Red Blargg", but might I suggest the more concise "Blargg (small)" instead? LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:55, July 28, 2023 (EDT)
- I'd support the move, since the name "Red Blargg" suggests it exists in other colors (excluding Nep Enut, of course!), and that Blarggs have been red in SMW. -- FanOfYoshi 04:01, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- How about "Blargg (Yoshi's Island series)"? --GuntherBayBeee 12:35, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- It still wouldn't account for the eventuality that it may appear outside of the series at some point, and giving the "small" identifier (inspired by "Gargantua Blargg (tall)") will give less work if that were to happen. Also, the Yoshi identifiers make it seem like it's "the" main Blargg, and that Gargantua Blargg should be a variant of it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:42, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- Actually, I'll be seconding this; Give us an option to move it to "Blargg (small)". I already voted for "Blargg (Yoshi franchise)", but maybe "(small)" would be the better identifier. I'll turn my vote in a secondary option then, because honestly, it's still better than the current name. rend (talk) (edits) 17:19, July 29, 2023 (EDT)
- I would also prefer "Blargg (small)". PaperSplash (talk) 13:36, August 2, 2023 (EDT)

Decide what else Red Blargg can be moved to

Current time: Sunday, December 1, 2024, 19:00 GMT
My proposal to either merge this article to Blargg or move to Blargg (Yoshi franchise) had just been declined, so I've come up with a new proposal, this time to decide what else Blargg can be moved to: move to Blargg (small); move to Blargg (Yoshi's Island series); or do nothing. For example, the small variety of Blarggs first appeared in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island as Red Blarggs, and they eventually return in Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3 under their current name.

Move to "Blargg (small)"
- GuntherBB (talk) Per proposal
- LinkTheLefty (talk) They're admittedly bigger in New Island, but they're still called "Kounbaba" there and are still small in relation to the "big" Blarggs, so this is the only path that makes sense to me, also per what was said previously.
- Arend (talk) As I said previously, these Blarggs are commonly referred to as simply "Blargg", and were only referred to as "Red Blargg" in the SMW2 Yoshi's Island Player's Guide, and only once too (since they weren't listed in the Enemy Index for some reason).
