A pink Star Shard, as seen beside the Cosmic Toad who is explaining to Mario what they are and giving it to him.
A Star Shard is an item in Super Mario Galaxy. Cosmic Toads give them to Mario quite often, and, judging by screenshots and previews, something happens when Mario recieves one hundred (100) of them.
Star Shards come in many colors, and are quite shiny. They are first introduced on an Asteroid Planet, as seen in the screenshot.
