Template:Event-infobox Snow Day Street Hockey is a Dream Event that appears in Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to score more points than the opposing team in a set amount of time, with the event taking place in Delfino Plaza. Lakitu appears as a referee in this event.

Gameplay

  • Let's begin with how to hold the Wii U GamePad and Wii Remote Plus for Snow Day Street Hockey.
  • Single Player explanations will appear on the Wii U GamePad. Multiplayer explanations will be displayed on the TV screen.
  • In this event you use Left Stick on the Wii U GamePad to move.
  • In power shot mode, touch the Wii U GamePad touch screen and slide quickly to shoot.
  • In multiplayer mode, other players hold the Wii Remote Plus horizontally and use +Control Pad to move.
  • In power shot mode, hold the Wii Remote Plus upright and swing it like a hockey stick.

Tutorial

  1. Face-Off (Start)
    Let's talk about the face-off.
    Single Player explanations will appear on the Wii U GamePad. Multiplayer explanations will be displayed on the TV screen.
    At the beginning of the match and after a goal is scored, a player from each team competes for control of the puck in a face-off.
    To take control of the puck, wait for the moment when Lakitu drops the puck and it hits the ground, and press A Button before your opponent. / To take control of the puck, wait for the moment when Lakitu drops the puck and it hits the ground, and press Two Button before your opponent.

  2. Moving / Passing / Shooting

    Move by tilting up, down, left, or right on Left Stick on the Wii U GamePad. / Move by pressing up, down, left, or right on +Control Pad on the Wii Remote Plus.

  3. Tricks
    Let's talk about tricks.

    Tricks are special moves you can use when you have the puck.
    There are four types of tricks.
    The first trick is the quick dash, which gives you a burst of speed in a straight line.
    To do a Quick Dash, snap Left Stick twice in the direction you want to go while handling the puck. / To do a Quick Dash, quickly press +Control Pad twice in the same direction while handling the puck.
    Try doing a quick dash now.
    Next is the Edge Turn, which lets you change direction with a sharp turn while moving fast.
    To do an Edge Turn, rotate Left Stick at least 90 degrees away from the direction you are going in while handling the puck. / To do an edge turn, quickly rotate +Control Pad to another direction while you are handling the puck.
    Try doing an edge turn now.
    Next is the quick turn, which lets you perform a spinning turn to shake off opponents while handling the puck.
    To do a Quick Turn, quickly rotate Left Stick all the way around once while handling the puck. / To do a Quick Turn, quickly rotate +Control Pad all the way around once while handling the puck.

    The last trick is the Puck Lift, which lets you lift the puck up and turn on the spot to face the opposite direction.

  4. Power Shots
    Let's talk about power shots.

    The power gauge for both teams is shown on the bottom of the screen. When it is full, you can unleash a power shot.
    The power gauge fills up as you handle the puck and perform tricks near opponents, but it empties if you get hit by your opponents' tricks.
    To perform a power shot, press A Button when the power gauge is full. / To perform a power shot, press 2 when the power gauge is full.
    When performing a power shot with the Wii U GamePad, slide on the touch screen like you are flicking the puck with your finger. / When performing a power shot with the Wii Remote Plus, swing the Wii Remote Plus like a hockey stick.
    Slide quickly from the middle of the touch screen to the upper right to shoot right, and to the upper let to shoot left. / Swing from right to left to shoot to the left. Swing from back to front to shoot the puck straight.

  5. Defence
    Let's talk about how to play defence.
    Single Player explanations will appear on the Wii U GamePad. Multiplayer explanations will be displayed on the TV screen.
    You can steal the puck when the other team has it by approaching the opponent handling the puck and hitting the puck with your stick.
    Try stealing the puck from an opponent now.
    Steal the puck from opponents who are farther away using a body check. Press A Button when you don't have the puck to do a body check. / Steal the puck from opponents who are farther away using a body check. Press Two Button when you don't have the puck to do a body check.
    Body-check an opponent with the puck to knock them away and steal it.
    However, you'll lose a lot of time if the opponent dodges your body check.
    To control a different character, touch the character you want to switch to on the touch screen. / To control a different character, press B Button.
    When the other team unleashes a power shot, you'll control the Shy Guy goalie.
    Move Left Stick left or right to move the Shy Guy left or right. / To move the Shy Guy left or right, press left or right on +Control Pad.
    Press A Button to jump. / Press Two Button to jump.
    If the goalie is in position, he catches the puck automatically. If it looks like the puck will be close, try for a jumping catch!
    Try controlling the Shy Guy now and make a save.
  6. Bonus Goals
    Let's talk about bonus goals.
    Bonus goals sometimes appear during Snow Day Street Hockey matches. Each bonus goal is worth 2 points.
    You can shoot at the bonus goal and score from any angle.
    As long as your shot reaches the bonus goal, you can score with a normal shot or a power shot.

Control Hints

  • The POW Blocks on Coin Street can knock out your opponents. Use them for defence and offence!
  • There is a banana stand on Market Street. If ou run into it with the puck or the puck hits the bananas, banana peels will go flying.
