Template:Badge-infobox HP Drain is a badge in Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. In Paper Mario, it can be bought from Merlow at Shooting Star Summit for fifteen Star Pieces. In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, it is found in Rogueport, at an area near the docks accessible through Boat Mode, near Fahr Outpost, inside a red ? Block on the path to the Outpost, and possibly dropped after battle by Green Fuzzies and Swoopers. If Mario equips it, his attack drops by 1. Additionally, in Paper Mario, the badge heals Mario for every enemy he hits, regardless if any damage is dealt, capping at 5. This means a Jump attack will heal 2 HP as opposed to 1 HP gained from using a Hammer attack, where as Quake Hammer or Multibounce against 5 enemies will net 5 HP. This behavior was changed in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, where any number of attacks will always heal Mario for an amount equal to the number of badges equipped. The badge has a variant named HP Drain P that affects solely Mario's partner.

Merluvlee's prediction in Paper Mario

  • "I see...an HP Drain Badge. There is a child upstairs in the fortune-teller's house on Shooting Star Summit. Hey! I'm that fortune-teller! Anyway, the child is my brother, Merlow. He will trade Star Pieces for Badges. Head upstairs to see him!"
