“Dude! Have you noticed that huge shell sittin' pretty on the ocean floor? There's no way you could swim that far down, yo. You'd need to dive way, WAY down...”
Shy Guy, Paper Mario: The Origami King

The Big Shell is a special item in Paper Mario: The Origami King. It one of several treasures that can be found in the depths of the Great Sea. Specifically, Mario must sail between Club Island and Diamond Island to find a Shy Guy on a rock. When talked to, the Shy Guy mentions a shell on the ocean floor that can only be reached by diving very deep. After diving underwater with the Super Marino in front of the Shy Guy and collecting the Big Shell from the sea floor, Mario can again talk to the Shy Guy, who suggests tossing it on a BBQ to probably make it "MONDO tasty", but wonders where to find enough wood to cook.

With the Big Shell in his inventory, Mario can then head to Toad's BBQ Foodeatery in Whispering Woods and find the campfire area. If he has not done so already, he must use the Magic Circle for a Fire Vellumental to light the firewood. The shell can then be placed onto the grill. After a while, it opens to reveal a Toad who is a caretaker of Toad's BBQ Foodeatery. He states that he left for the Great Sea in search for exciting, innovative BBQ ingredients before returning home to a nearby log cabin. Mario can then enter the cabin to find a chest that he can open to find Collectible Treasure No. 3: Ol' Grandsappy.
