The player has to do the "Sunbaked Sand Castle" level as normal, until reaching a sandy planet with a planet with Boulders nearby. Then the player has to feed a Hungry Luma. After feeding the Hungry Luma, Mario has to go to a planet which has sand that can rise and go down. Th player has to collect Star peices to make a Launch Star appear. Mario will be transported to another planet with two switches. If the player Grond Pounds on the blue switch, it makes glass cages and several dry bones rise from the sand. The player needs to either get a Bullit Bill to home on Mario before the ruins rise from the sand, or the plaer should do a back flip jump and [[Star Spin]]ning at it's peak when the Bullit Bills come out to get them to home on Mario. When they home on Mario, the player can get them to hit a cage with the power star, a rainbow star, or star bits.

The Dusty Dune Galaxy is a galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It has many enemies, including various Pokeys, Tweesters, and Dry Bones, as well as many floating sand structures. It can be compared to Shifting Sand Land from Super Mario 64.
