Maizō (マイゾー[1]) is a species of crab enemies that appear in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. They are found in Course No. 6 in Rice Beach, where they stay hidden in the sand until Wario Ground Pounds around their territory. They then jump out of the sand, revealing themselves. Each crab holds a 10 Gold Coin. The coins can only be obtained by performing a Body Slam. However, they are stationary only for a short time after they hop out of the sand, after which they rush to get away from Wario. Even if they run away, they eventually respawn in the sand whenever they are off-screen. Their name most likely comes from the Japanese word maizōkin, meaning buried gold.
