TPP | |||
Big Shy Guy was originally split from Mega Guy earlier this year when it was pulled into a failed attempt to merge the Big Lantern Ghost boss from Paper Mario with the Mega Kantera enemy from Yoshi's New Island. To be completely honest, I don't entirely understand why it was included in the proposal in the first place, and LinkTheLefty, the original proposer, has since stated that they shouldn't have been.
I am now proposing that they be re-merged. Splitting Big Shy Guy and Mega Guy is completely inconsistent with how we treat every other large enemy variant. There's really no difference between the two other than the name, but giant enemies have gone through name changes before, including in Japanese. The biggest differences merely come from the vastly different gameplay styles of Super Mario Bros. 2 and Yoshi's Island. Also, there are other big Shy Guys in the franchise that aren't covered anywhere and now don't have a clear page to be covered on as a result of the split.
To address the previous arguments in favor of splitting, the main one used was "I doubt the developers intended these to be the same". Well, that doesn't really matter. First of all, it's complete speculation whether or not the Yoshi's New Island developers had Super Mario Advance in mind when adding a larger variant of Shy Guys. Second, that's inconsistent with our treatment of large enemies. I highly doubt the Super Mario Galaxy 2 developers had the SMB3 cartoon in mind when they added a large variant of Paragoombas either, but that doesn't warrant a split for what is otherwise the exact same concept. Not to mention following this line of thinking would lead us down an endless rabbit hole of speculation and illogical splits. The only other argument was the claim that "there are other instances of large versions of enemies being split" which used Big Bloopers and the Super Blooper boss from Paper Mario as evidence, though this isn't actually applicable since the Super Blooper is a Blooper Nanny rather than a standard Blooper. If any valid examples of this are found however, I'd be happy to address them in the comments.
