Super Mario Strikers -- Heads Up, parsed in-game as Heads-Up, was a promotional online Flash game published by Nintendo around the release of Super Mario Strikers for the Nintendo GameCube. It was listed in the Nintendo Arcade, a now defunct section with web games on Nintendo's website.[1]

Gameplay

In this game, the player has to move Mario around with the left and right arrow keys to bounce a soccer ball on his head repeatedly. Character icons appear in random locations above Mario, and can be collected by bouncing the ball into them, awarding points for a score. There are also items that temporarily change Mario's speed when collected, appearing at regular intervals: Mushrooms speed him up, while Blue Shells cause him to slow down. The item that is currently taking effect is displayed on the top-left corner of the screen.

When a character icon appears, a voice clip of that character is heard. The number of points awarded by an icon depends on the character depicted on it. In order from least to most valuable, these are:

  1. DAA520 and Template:Color-link-piped – worth 8 points.
  • red – worth 10 points.
  • purple – worth 15 points.

The current score and the overall high score are shown at the bottom of the screen. The game is over when the player fails to catch the ball. The game over screen offers the option to either replay the game or visit the official website for Super Mario Strikers.

The Palace arena is always seen in the background during the game.
