Vaporware is a term for games that are announced on which development is started but, for a possible variety of reasons, were never published. Following is a list of Mario vaporware.
- Super Mario's Wacky Worlds, which was cancelled due to the CD-i's drop in popularity. – CD-i
- Super Mario FX, an early attempt at a 3D Mario game cancelled due to system limitations. Certain aspects of this game were carried over into Super Mario 64. – Super Nintendo Entertainment System
- VB Mario Land, which was not completed before the Virtual Boy failed. – Virtual Boy
- Super Mario 64 2, abandoned due to a lack of progress and failure of the 64DD. – Nintendo 64DD
- Super Mario 128, an experimental demo, of which some elements were used in Super Mario Galaxy. More dramatically, it served as a basis for the game Pikmin. – Nintendo GameCube
- Diddy Kong Pilot, not finished before Rare joined Microsoft in 2002. It was later reworked into Banjo Pilot. – Game Boy Advance
- Donkey Kong Racing, Possibly, not finished before Rare joined Microsoft. (Unnoficially cancelled)
- Super Mario Advance 5: Yoshi's Story, was little more than an experimental demo. Whether Nintendo had intentions of ever releasing it is unknown. – Game Boy Advance
