Swallowing is one of Yoshi's most common moves. After swallowing an enemy, Yoshi can turn it into a Yoshi Egg. He could also spit them back out.
Swallow is also the name of Kirby's B-Button attack in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee and will use it again in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. When Kirby swallowed an enemy, he would don their B-Button attack in the place of Swallow, as well as donning one of the twenty-five Kirby Hats corresponding with whichever opponent he swallowed. This did not work on the following only:
- Another Kirby (unless that Kirby has a different power)
- Any background enemy in Adventure Mode i.e. Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Koopa Paratroopa, ReDead, Like Like, Octorok, Topi and Polar Bear.
- NPCs
When Kirby swallowed one of these enemies, or any enemy for that matter, they could be sent out flying by pressing the Z button.
Oddly enough, in the original Super Smash Bros., if Kirby holds an opponent in his mouth, he would be unable to walk or jump until he spits or swallows the enemy. All he is limited to in movement is to turn around. This was fixed in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
If Kirby uses his Taunt, he will lose the power that he gained. This can be taken as a downside or an upside.
