The Gil Board is a minor character from Super Mario Galaxy. He is a signpost that tells Mario how to use and do things like how to roll on the ball. He claims to be the "Famous Gil Board" and claims Mario knows him, although Super Mario Galaxy was infact his first and only appearence.
