| "Every hundred years a comet passes over the Mushroom Kingdom and rains down magical stars and stardust, Princess Peach and the citizens of the kingdom are celebrating the centennial event. Peach invites Mario to this event. When Mario is approaching the castle things go wrong when Bowser attacks the Toads and freezing them.". He then "invites" Peach to his new galaxy. But that isn't Bowser big plan, no, he's taking [[Princess Peach's Castle]] up into space. When Mario tries to save her. A [[Magikoopa]] (who has generally been accepted as [[Kamek]]) shoots Mario into outer space. He later wakes up on a small grassy planet and meets [[Tyke]], who escaped the castle at the last minute. He transforms into a [[Space Rabbit]] and Mario chases him and two other rabbits, who tells him he is in space. They take him to meet [[Princess Rosetta]]. Rosetta tells Mario that the Universe is in great danger, because Bowser attacked Rosetta's ship and stole the [[Power Star]]s and the seven [[Grand Star]]s. Without these the [[Comet Observatory]] is lost. Rosetta asks him to rescue the Grand Stars in order to defeat Bowser, who took Peach to the Center of the Universe. Mario then starts his journey across the Galaxies, freeing [[Grand Star]]s. Gameplay [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFtSRicjGVQ footage] has shown [[Luigi]] in a jail cell and calling out for Mario in a haunted house. Luigi will help Mario finding new stars. After finally defeating Bowser in his central galaxy and grabbing a falling Peach, Mario sees Bowser's sun break apart. The sun of Bowser's near-complete galaxy explodes and creates a giant black hole that begins to suck in everything in the universe. Tyke is sucked in, Mario extremely saddened. The black hole becomes a huge tornado which soon explodes and absorbs everything in existence. Mario appears in front of Rosetta who speaks to him of what has happened. Mario floats away from Rosetta. He then awakens in the Mushroom Kingdom near Peach's castle. He sees everyone he's met throughout his adventure holding hands in peace and celebrating. Bowser and Peach sit next to him. The world is at peace and back to normal once more. "Welcome to the new galaxy!" Mario exclaims, and the game ends.

The Star Cursor is also used to perform a variety of tasks, from climbing vines, to manipulating Wobble Launchers, to collecting Star Shards.

| Famitsu Magazine has given ''Super Mario Galaxy'' a score of 38/40. (This means two reviewers gave it a nine, and two gave it a perfect ten.) To put that in perspective, ''[[Super Mario Sunshine]]'' was given 37/40 and ''[[Super Mario 64]]'' 39/40. The Official Nintendo Magazine UK gave the game 97%, making it the highest scoring game in the magazine's history, along with The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess and Resident Evil 4. It was called the best game of the decade and praised for having excellent graphics, sound and gameplay as well as a mixture of new features and classic features.
