Blarggs are lava-infesting monsters from the Super Mario World series and Yoshi series. They are odd in that, despite appearing in Super Mario World and its three sequels, Blarggs appear different in each game.
Blarggs are large, lava-dwelling monsters, commonly found in underground caverns in which magma is abundant. Originally, Blarggs resembled lazy-eyed dragons, but more recent depictions show them as being anything from blob-like beings with large mouths and beady eyes to humanoid, limbed creatures.

The Blarggs in Super Mario World are dragons that reside in lava-filled caverns. These enemies hide in lava, and when Mario approaches one, the Blargg lunges at the plumber. Unlike Mario, Yoshi can jump on top of Blarggs to avoid getting hurt. This will not defeat them however.
Blarggs first appeared in Super Mario World as fairly rare enemies, encountered primarily in the Vanilla Dome these Blarggs resembled the aforementioned draconic version of the creatures. In this appearance, Blargg, upon seeing Mario or Luigi approach on a Skull Raft, would try to lunge at them, roaring menacingly. Blarggs could not be defeated by any conventional means and for the most part, can only be avoided, though Yoshi is capable of jumping on them and, with some difficulty, eating them.

Blarggs also appear in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. In this game, Blarggs are no longer lava dragons, but instead lava versions of Nep-Enut.  Despite this change of appearance, they attack the same way as their Super Mario World counterparts. (However, in this game, Yoshi cannot jump on top of them.) Some Blarggs have grown to epic proportions, becoming the awe-inspiring Gargantua Blarggs. In Tetris Attack, a single Gargantua Blargg was brainwashed by Kamek and Bowser, forcing it to join their side. Once this Gargantua Blargg is defeated by Yoshi, it becomes playable in Tetris Attack's multiplayer mode.
In Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Island DS, Blarggs were changed completely in appearance, but retained their attack pattern of lunging at the player, but now could not be jumped on by a Yoshi, but could be subdued by having a Yoshi Egg thrown at them. In Yoshi's Story, Blarggs were once again altered, being made larger and given small arms and appeared in only one level, Stage 2-2: Blargg's Boiler.

Blarggs make another appearance in the sequel to Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, in Stage 2-2: Blargg's Boiler.  These Blarggs were as large as regular Gargantua Blarggs and were orange and yellow in color. The Blarggs of Yoshi's Story also possessed lazy-eyes and small arms.

In Yoshi's Island DS Blarggs and Gargantua Blarggs make appearances as enemies once again. Yoshi's Island DS also introduced a new type of Blargg called Crusher Blarggs, which are enormous in size and can crush solid rock.

Blarggs, though never referred to as such on-screen, appeared in several episodes of the Super Mario World animated series.
Blarggs, their appearance based off their Super Mario World interpreation, appeared in the animated series of the same name twice; appearing in the episodes "The Wheel Thing" and "Mama Luigi", the former of which, had a Blargg actually emerge from it's lava pit, revealing it possessed a large, Tyrannosaurus Rex-like body.

In the episode "The Wheel Thing", Mario and Luigi, having been banned to the Lava Pits, begin attempting to cook a pizza over a fire. The smell from this cooking pizza causes a Blargg to emerge from a nearby lake of lava and begin to chase Luigi, attempting to eat the plumber. Luigi is rescued from being devoured, as Mario swoops down and saves his brother as Cape Mario.

In a later episode titled "Mama Luigi", a Blargg makes a brief appearance. Luigi and Yoshi, while running away from the T-Rex and another Tyrannosaurus Rex, use a Blargg's head as a stepping-stone to cross a river of lava.

* The Czar Dragon, the boss of Barrel Volcano in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, resembles a Super Mario World Blargg; likewise, the Red Dragon appearing in Stage 6-4: Magma Castle of Yoshi's Story bears a large resemblance to Super Mario World Blarggs as well.

In the Super Mario Adventures comic, several Blarggs appear before Mario, Luigi and Yoshi while they are navigating their way through Bowser's lava-filled basement. Using these Blarggs as stepping-stones to cross a large pool of lava, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi manage to reach a nearby Warp Pipe that leads to the upper region of Bowser's Castle.
* Blarggs are referenced to in both Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Super Paper Mario; in the first game, they are mentioned by Kylie Koopa while in the other, a Sammer Guy named Raging Blargg can be fought.
