Saturday, August 11th, 7-11PM EDT
Why? What? The Super Mario Wiki was created on August 12th, 2005. On August 12th, 2006, this wiki was off to a good start, but still beginning and with a small community of active users. Now we are a big community and very vibrant, and coming up on the 2nd anniversary of the wiki's creation, it's time to celebrate...the wiki. And what better way to do that than with a... Award Presentation Sign-UpThanks to all 62 people who voted for the Mario Awards! Only ~9.3% of possible maximum votes were skipped, giving us nearly 1700 votes in all, an average of 56.5 votes per award. More statistics in the special 'Shroom Results Issue next month. During the Awards Show next month, the ceremony will reveal 30 award results based on 60+ voters' opinions. However, to spice up the show, instead of making it plain, you get to customize 2 award results to your liking (you must be a forum user to do it & a wiki user to sign up, sorry guests). What can you do? Remember that the idea is to have an Oscar-like presentation with all the big stars (us!) who made this wiki what it is today coming. Suggestions:
You may do anything you want, not limited at all to the above, but please try to do something, and not be just plain. You should at least give out the nominees and have something like "The WINNER is..." and a few line breaks down (not too much). There will be 5-10 minute breaks inbetween each presentation. The idea is that users can comment on the previous presentation as well as continue script ideas from past presentations or even have separate scripts off-stage (such as a conspiracy behind-the-scenes, almost succeeding but failing at the end). On July 24th, at midnight (going into 7/25), I will not only release the order of presentations scheduled, but also privately communicate the results of the awards to the signed-up presenters. The order of presentations is shaken up for the Award #. This way, multiple users can coordinate scripts for in-between presentations – such as a presenter being kidnapped and being missing until there is a delay, and then s/he is saved and finally presents. This also gives presenters an idea of when they are going. Now, finally, the sign-up. Each award can only have one presenter. Please be 100% sure you will be here for the entirety of the event before signing up. Being able to switch award slots to make sure you're here to present them because you're only here part of the time is not guaranteed and may mean a loss of the presentation, including your script, as I will do all backups and simply use a default script to present the award. Try to limit the chances that something will come up unexpected; clear your schedule, etc. Use ~~~~, replacing the blank underline, to sign-up. You may sign up for up to 4 awards. This is first-come, first-serve. There are five backup user slots in case anyone cancels before August 11th. You may not sign anyone else up but yourself. YOU ARE BY SIGNING UP FOR ANY AWARD OR BACKUP ROLE ABSOLUTELY TO BE TRUSTED TO NOT RELEASE ANY RESULTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, EVEN UNDER PEER PRESSURE, UNTIL IT IS TIME TO PRESENT. VIOLATION OF THIS TRUST WILL LEAD TO STRIPPING OF YOUR PRESENTATIONS FOR THIS AND FUTURE AWARD SHOWS, AS WELL AS A BAN FROM FORUM AND CHAT FOR THE ENTIRE DAY OF AUGUST 11. Award Slots
I tried to make myself as clear as possible on my intentions for user scripts. If you feel any confusion, contact me via user talk, forum PM, or chat, and I'll try to make it clear for you. Thanks, and enjoy! Wa TC@Y VotingVoting has now closed, but the awards table is retained in showhide form for the record. Voters: 62 If this table does not show up: click here.

OutlineOn Saturday, August 11th, we'll have a big awards show chat-and-forum-party blast. We are less than a month away. Besides Award Presentations, there are also user awards – our most active users will be mentioned for something (a quality) they contribute here (i.e. best writer, most technical, craziest, etc). 40+ users will be recognized. That all goes down on August 11th from 7-11pm EDT. Chat party starts at 10am on the same day. In a post-party we will run into the actual day of the wiki's creation, August 12th, at midnight. Make sure you can stay up that night – you won't want to miss the big countdown. ScheduleThe following is a table that outlines exact dates on which events related to pre-show processes will hopefully occur. Included is a small description of the event and whether the awards committee (AC), the general body of wiki users (WU), forum users (FU) and/or guests (G) can be involved (note that the awards committee must also be forum users, but this is not noted). This also assumes that both user awards and award presentations are included.
Awards Committee ListWe have 8 members. We are accepting one more late user to make up for losses. This is it – no more sign-ups. User awards are the only item left. |
