Friendly Floyd is a character from the Super Mario Adventures comic strip that was featured in Nintendo Power magazine in 1992, which was later released as graphic novel.
Mario and Luigi first bumped into Friendly Floyd at Yoshi Village, where he had been trying to sell items such as toothbrushes and lightbulbs to the Yoshis, which they had no use for. There he told the Bros. that Bowser had kidnapped several of the villagers and had sealed Yoshi in an egg when he attempted to fight back. Mario tried to hire him to act as their tranlator, so they could understand what Yoshi was saying. However, Floyd declined but did sell them a "Yoshi Language Learner" and took off (Unfortunately, every word or phrase in the book translated into the word "Yoshi".).
