Roto-Discs were one of the more annoying traps Mario encountered in Super Mario Bros. 3. Though not technically a living creature, the Roto-Disc still posed a hazard to Mario. While Mario could safely stand on the ball that the Roto-Disc revolved around, touching the Roto-Disc would hurt him. Sometimes they would come in pairs as well. The only way for Mario to eliminate a Roto-Disc was to Jump on it while in Statue Mario form, only possible while wearing a Tanooki Suit. They're usually positioned so that a small passage will become a death trap if Mario doesn't time his moves.
Roto-Discs are fireball-like entities first appearing in Super Mario Bros. 3. Roto-Discs are only found circleling gray orbs, which either Mario or Luigi can stand on; Roto-Discs are nearly indestructable, and can only be destroyed by having Mario or Luigi transform into a statue by using a Tanooki Suit and having them land on top of a Roto-Discs gray orb. Aside from Super Mario Bros. 3 and it's subsequent remakes, the only other appearance of Roto-Discs was in Mini-Mario course in Bowser's Castle in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, as obstacles that are capable of defeating Mario in one hit.
