- In the March 3rd Nintendo Direct, footage of Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Paper Mario: Color Splash (pictured) for Wii U, a new update for Super Mario Maker, and Western localizations of Rhythm Heaven Megamix for the Nintendo 3DS were announced. Super Mario World was also released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console shortly after the presentation.
- Nintendo New York, formerly the Nintendo World Store, was reopened on February 19, 2016, after a one-month renovation.
