Template:Minigame-infobox Polar Extreme is a Free-for-All minigame in Mario Party 9. It is a pun on the children's book, The Polar Express. The name may also be based on the terminology "polar extreme", which represents radical viewpoints.
Introduction
The camera shows the ship at the end. Then, it switches to the players' position.
Gameplay
The competitors must jump on breakable ice chunks which shift under their weight to reach the ship first or survive longest. If the player falls in the water, he or she will be temporally frozen before returning to the platform, but can leap out of the water by pressing rapidly. The player loses if he or she falls behind the scrolling screen. Some Penguins are found on some chunks as obstacles, stunning any player that touches them. Occasionally, jumping on a chunk of ice results in it shattering into smaller pieces.
In-game text
- Rules – "Make your way across the drifting ice chunks. Be the first to board the ship at the end to win!"
- Controls – "Hold the Wii Remote sideways. Press to move and to jump. If you fall into the water, rapidly press to climb back onto the ice."
